[Thread] Oh, exquisite meetings

Oct 30, 2008 19:56

Characters: Fudou Yuusei (AU), OPEN
Where: In the general vicinity of the fountain
When: A few hours after dawn.
Summary: Yuusei is just a bit perturbed. She's grown increasingly so because of her inability to do anything. Nothing like a walk in the alfresco semi-desolation, right?
Warnings: Maybe a bit of angst, but other than that nothing that I can foresee.

Running her hand slowly along her forehead, Yuusei stared harshly at her reflection in the murky fountain waters. She was exasperated, as would have been obvious to any who had known enough about her to appreciate the subtle fractures in her normally stoic visage. This place refused to yield any answers to her, and it was slowly grating more and more on her, because no matter how hard she struggled she was merely flouting against something she could not fully comprehend. Back at home she had never fully understood what she was up against, but things had always worked out for her in even the most impossible situations. She had even survived Satellite. With a good head and a firm resolve-much more than could be said about her fractured friends who needed their family unit to function---it had definitely been possible. Here, however, even her most valiant conscious efforts to stay grounded were in slowly proving to be in vain.

Was it that she was becoming weak? Lonely, even?

The thought had crossed her mind a couple of times, she had to admit. She stole a glance at the strange cuff on her left wrist, prodding it absently with her other hand. Another thing she could not understand. Of what was it constituted? Without the proper technology all she could do was guess. And that was not enough.

Sighing now, she slowly stood up. There were a few others drifting around but she did not expect them to talk to her, to someone who really had nothing to offer them unless they wanted a succinct recounting of growing impatience and failures. But really, they all had their fair shares of failure, and that really did not bug her too much. She had always championed the worth of every individual, after all.

Perhaps she was just being too hard on herself; perhaps something that had quietly fractured a long time ago was finally beginning to slowly crack again. And the added burden of the half-knowledge of what would inevitably happen to her home if no one was there to intervene probably was not helping her mood.

In any case, what she probably needed the most was a reminder of just how human she was-with all the pros and cons that sticky little fact entailed---and a spot of company.
