It was Mai. Happy, cheery, sappy singing? Not exactly her style. Perhaps she could bear is in small amounts if she HAD too, but all the singing from everyone in the compound?

No thank you. Even the piano, which might have been bearable before, was annoying when she heard it as she knocked on Zuko's door. "It's me." She called.

Zuko rose from his spot on the couch when he heard her knock, opening the door with a sort of loving smile that was brief and reserved for her and her alone. He heard the piano, too, but didn't think much of it and attributed it to the singing nonsense currently going on. Someone had probably requisitioned one or had one in their apartment and was playing to have an accompaniment to their voice. He was glad that most of the musical chaos couldn't be heard back in his room.

"Hey," he said and held the door open for her to step inside. Once she was in, he shut it behind her and walked towards his room, assuming she'd follow. "No one tried to serenade you on the way over?"

Mai smiled back, happy to see him, as she always was. "Hey." She said, stepping inside and following him to his room. "I was able to avoid them, thankfully."

Once they both were inside his room, he shut the door. Buffy had been pretty upset last week and he didn't want to be a bother to her by hanging out in the living room if she still wanted to be alone. Besides, he could hear less of the musical chaos in here.

"Good," Zuko said and moved to sit down on the edge of his bed.

There wasn't much in his room. A bed, a nightstand and a dresser was all that took up the space within the apartment that was his and his alone. One the nightstand, sat Roku's crown and the carved statue of his uncle that Toph had given him. The pair of dao that had come with him from their world hung on the wall above the head of his bed and the katanas that Azula had given him were displayed similarly on the opposite wall near the window.

He flopped back onto the mattress after a moment, tilting his head to focus his eyes on her. "How long do you think this is going to last?"

Mai sat down beside him on the mattress. "Don't these things usually last a week?" She asked. She could still hear that piano. She lied down beside him, snuggling up against him.

Oddly enough, he could still hear the piano, too. Whoever it was must be in one of the apartment near Ast-Tria. Wonderful.

"Usually," he said as he wrapped an arm around her and began idly playing with some loose strands of her hair. "And if that means you're going to spend time here for a week, I'm inclined to not hate it so much."

Mai wrapped an arm around his chest, resting her head on his shoulder. "Hm, when you put it that way, the piano isn't quite so annoying." She commented, smiling a bit.

"It...really isn't," Zuko said and was a bit surprised to find that he really wasn't minding piano so much. The tune was almost soothing and he closed his eyes for a moment, basking in the simplicity of the moment. When he opened his eyes and looked down at her form resting against him, he opened his mouth to say something, but the intended words died in his throat and something else entirely made use of his vocal chords.

"Never knew I could feel like this," he sang, barely registering the fact that he was doing it. "Like I've never seen the sky before. Want to vanish inside your kiss. Everyday I love you more and more."

The prince shifted some and brought a hand up to move the one of hers that rested on his chest so that her palm was now hovering over his heart. "Listen to my heart; can you hear, it sings? Seasons may change, winter to spring. But I love you, until the end of time. Come what may. Come what may. I will love you, until my dying day."

Mai nodded, happy to just stay here. And then Zuko started to sing. She stared at him in shock for as he sang and opened her mouth to say something. "Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place. Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace." She sang, not quite as well as Zuko. Her voice wasn't used to emotion in, let alone SINGING.

"Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste." She sang with Zuko. "But our world revolves around you." Well, that was true for her. And then they were singing together again. "And there's no mountain too high. No river too wide. Sing out this song I'll be there by your side, Storm clouds may gather. And stars may collide. But I love you until the end of time." What was going on?!

It was when Mai started singing, too, that Zuko began to realize that someone was wrong, that they were both suddenly being affected by whatever was making the other residents sing. "Come what may," he sang again and for the first time in a long while, he felt embarrassed in front of her. He imagined he sounded horrible. He couldn't control what he was singing or what he was doing when he suddenly sat up and moved away from her, going to stand by the window. Zuko hadn't even heard this song before.

"Come what may," he turned to face her, holding out a hand, "I will love you until my dying day."

There was MOVEMENT now?! Mai pushed herself up and to her feet. "Oh, come what may, come what may." She couldn't stop the words from leaving her mouth. She didn't even know this song? How could she sing it?

By the sages, she'd even have to sound horrible! Her voice wasn't the type to sing! "I will love you, I will love you. Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place." She sang and took his hand. "Come what may..."

She didn't sound horrible, but he couldn't get his voice to work in a non-singing way to tell her as much. Not that he even wanted to acknowledge the fact that whatever was now going on in Econtra was making them serenade eachother, of all things. Thank Agni and whatever other great Spirits were listening that they were alone in his room and without anyone to watch them make fools of themselves.

Zuko pulled her to him and held her in a dancing position, he spun her around a few times and then finished out the song. "Come what may, I will love you, until my dying day."

When the odd urge to burst into unfamiliar songs left him, he stood rigid, his un-scarred cheek felt hot and was probably flushed with color to show his embarrassment. He released her then, taking a step back and raising a hand to rub the back of his head awkwardly. "That..."

Mai's own face was red when they finished the song. She looked away when he stopped, coughing a bit to clear her throat. It felt weird now. "...I guess...it got to us..."

"Yeah," he answered, clearing his on throat as well. Zuko sat back down on the bed and put his head in his hands for a moment. When he lifted his chin he said, "Sorry. I guess I kinda...started...whatever the hell that was."

"...not your fault." Mai said, staying by the wall, trying to get the blush to go down. "...do you know what we sang?"

He laughed in attempt to lighten the mood, even though he didn't find being forced to sing the least big amusing. "No idea," he said.

Zuko watched her for a moment, eyes tracing the areas of her skin that were flushed with color that he found surprisingly attractive. He'd never seen her blush like that before.

Standing, he moved to her and put one hand on her arm and used the other to cup her cheek. "It wasn't that bad. We just won't tell anyone we did that."
