It's not your fault you couldn't save her./There's no point in staying here...I'm going. Which did she believe, which memories?

Who needs you anyway? I have better friends. That was no false memory. There was no question of that. Mercury could thumb through her communicator entries and still find it, if she cared enough to wallow in it. The person I wouldn't mind disappearing is Mercury. That, too, was no figment of her imagination. She was not relying on remembering it; she could still read it. The rest had all been similar.

You don't deserve to be alone./If you have something to say, I'll listen./Those girls aren't worth that worry. He was right and always had been, whatever version or form of Kunzite it was. There really was no sense in chasing after those girls for something she wanted - needed - that they'd never been capable of giving ( ... )

Mercury gave a slow nod that was half accustomed obedience and half her own wish. She was pushing against questioning it, against over-thinking it, the fact that she wanted to stay by Kunzite right now. Perhaps it was only natural, the source of those messages she was already finding herself clinging to even when she'd tried to push him away at first. He wasn't always right. Kunzite's next words made Mercury's temper rise to the surface. Of course she hated the senshi, that other girl, those useless girls! He of all people, Kunzite, was saying something ridiculously sentimental like 'you don't hate her'? Put together with the obvious encouragement to stay the course, she found herself irritated by the challenge ( ... )

Why? As if she knew. Mercury glanced to the floor as she considered the question. She remained without answer. Some buried memory, something she didn't know; some facet of her ridiculous heart and that emotionality she wished she could cut out with her sword as easily as slicing through yarn. The ever-present question of who exactly she was if she had unknown lurking parts of herself connected to the senshi even while the rest wanted to destroy them. She stayed silent. She shouldn't have spoken in the first place.
