Tony Stark was a very befuddled man right now. He had problems. That was an understatement. First, Pepper had suddenly changed completely in looks and personality. In his mind he knew it was only temporary, but in his heart he ached at what was slowly opening up between them. He needed to finish that, wherever it led. He couldn't do that with her the way she was now.
Second, yesterday had been a horrible time for him to open his big mouth. He had gone and upset one of the few people around this camp that he could legitimately call 'friend' with a few heated words. The businessman knew it was a bad thing to do at the time, but his logic wasn't playing ball at the time. Now he was seriously regretting his actions. Tony Stark rarely felt such an emotion. And especially not concerning something so important. Confusion was an understatement for his mental state at the moment.
On top of all that, his beloved mentor was back from the "dead" and Tony had yet to fully face the facts of that before all this went down. There were so many emotions buzzing around in that logical mind of his, he thought he was going to process a malfunction and shut down. And it was another thing that he was beginning to think of himself in mechanical terms like he was a CPU with less capacity than his Jarvis unit.
Tony Stark sighed and shook his head clear. One small step at a time. Tony grabbed a stray, mostly clean piece of metal and set two cups, one teapot, and several random utensils/spice containers on top of it, then balanced the entire thing carefully in one hand. It took him a while to find the right spot, but afterwards he seemed pretty confident in moving around with it. Now I know how a waitress Pepper feels.
Stark left his apartment and carefully made his way to the hospital. Yinsen was still recovering from those awful wounds, Mercury's treatment going a long way to helping him get better, but rest was always the final key. One day Tony would understand that. He arrived at the hospital without incident (it was fairly early; not too many people out there thankfully) and he roamed around until he finally got to Yinsen's room. He was restless and not quite ready to enter, but the tea would get cold if he didn't move his sorry behind.
Tony knocked on the door frame before entering the open room. He set the "tray" down on the nearest nightstand and stood next to Yinsen's bed like an anxious dog waiting for its master to wake. "Hey, old man. You awake yet?" he said, peering over at the motionless form of his mentor.
