She'd come back from seeing Mello, who had insisted she come and spend time with him after hearing the news for a change of clothes and also to check on ther things. Gaz wanted to see her, but Matt wanted to mainly have a shower and clear her head a little. There was also the factor of Near, she had no idea how he'd be taking it.
It wasn't hard to spot him in the organised chaos of their room, the corner was one of his usual spots and there was always a trail of toys towards it if you looked carefully enough. Dropping her bag down on the bed she looked at his back, licking her lips briefly before speaking, "Hey."

He twisted the cube a couple of more times, solved it, and put it down.
Matt had been there longer than he had and from what she said about L, there had been a stronger relationship there than the one that he and L had--Not just the Objective to the Children. From her voice, he could tell that she was far more upset than he was. He could not remember being so upset since before he went to Wammy's House 14 years before...
Slowly he stood up to face her. He needed visual confirmation of his suspicions about her emotions. Then after a couple of minutes of watching her carefully, he said in a low voice hoarsely, "With Mello?" At this time, that was the only person he could imagine that she might want to see.

The Mello from where he was from had been (ridiculously) upset at L dying the first time, before they had gotten deeply involved in the Kira case themselves. But if his Mello had lost L a second time...
This Mello was far different from his.
She looked tired. Although...weary was more appropriate. For one of the only times in his life, he felt the need to comfort her...He wished that he could do something to improve her mood. It was strange seeing her so depressed. But of course, that was nowhere near is forte, so the pale successor said nothing.
Instead, he walked over to the bed, surprised by his own actions, and sat down on it, about two feet down from her. A finger instinctively went to his hair to twirl a lock and a foot came up to his chest as his eyes stayed firmly glued to the ground.
