despite sleeping in, i feeling strangely motivated today. i have finally started writing a cover letter to send to the professor with whom i'd like to do a post-doc. well, with whom i'm seeing if i can get a post-doc since i don't have an actual job yet. actually, i'm feeling less negative about post-docs right now. the guy has done some really cool projects (restoration ecology), and i'd love to learn some techniques and stuff from him. now i just have to convince him of that...despite my radically inappropriate PhD work.
Kern Ewing, the professor, is also one of the co-directors for the Restoration Ecology Network at UW, which is the group that offers the Restoration Ecology Certificate program that i'm also interested in doing. That may make it easier for me to do a post-doc and the certificate at the same time. or harder. i'm not really sure, but first i have to see if he'll give me a post-doc.
in other motivatedness, i actually rode my bicycle today. despite the fact that it's right here in my living room on it's stand, i only ride it once a week at most. for the most part, i ignore it entirely. not today! i put an episode of Stargate: SG-1 (last disc of season 5! i'm almost to the point where Daniel dies / ascends!) and rode for half an hour. go me. i've also suddenly developed the urge to go to the Botanical Garden to see the butterflies. hmmm...not today, though. it's too close to closing already. maybe i'll go tomorrow or Thursday. and i just called Daddy-Man, and we'll go when he's up here as well. yay! oooooh! idea! hey,
ronluvshermione, wanna meet at the Botanical Garden some weekend to see the butterflies? : )
as further evidence of today's ambitiousness, i'm trying to make split pea soup...for the first time! pulled out my Betty Crocker and the crock pot cookbook that
gretzilla gave me for ideas, though i'm not exactly following either recipe. i was really surprised to find that both versions have carrots and celery in the soup. i've always just thought of split pea soup as pea mush with spices and maybe some diced ham. not so! thus, my crock pot is now full of carrots and celery, as well as peas and ham. and definitely spices. and four cloves of garlic...though that was actually part of the recipe from the crock pot cookbook. gotta love a recipe that uses four cloves of garlic. whee!
now, i just have to see if this strange motivation will last the whole day. i'm going to go sweep the kitchen floor now, while it's still in effect. : )
EDIT (19:00): my pea soup is pea soupy! and pretty tasty. yay! *slurps*
