ooookaaaaay

sometimes, my car is so weird. i didn't take Izzy to a garage today because i wanted to make sure i got the chance to go grocery shopping and such before i was carless for a day or longer. you know what happened? absolutely nothing. she behaved just like normal. no vibration. nothing. near as i / my dad can figure, there was a chunk of ice frozen into one of the wheels putting it off balance. and it either melted away or fell off or i "drove through a pot hole just big enough to knock it off" or some such. so no garage visit for Izzy. yay!

one of those errands i wanted to run today was to pick up my taxes. well, pick up the results of my taxes and sign the forms that will let H&R Block file electronically on my behalf. i'm getting almost $200 back from Quebec. okay, it's not a lot, but it's still a 'bonus'. now, if it'll just come before i actually move. 'cuz that would be useful.

in other encouraging news, i got a letter from the County of Sacramento Employment Office saying that i "passed the examination process" for the position i applied for there. only, it turns out that it's not an actual position but a sorta always open position...or something. though the announcement for Natural Resource Specialist I/II isn't on their website any more, so i have no idea what's going on. anyway, i scored 85 (out of 100, i think) and am in the rank 3 grouping...which means i'm eligible to be hired if a position comes open in the next year (or three if they decide that). so, again, not an actual job offer, but an indication that somebody out there thinks i'm worth something. that's two in a row. suddenly i feel like i may be gainfully employed in the foreseeable future.

also applied for two more positions and submitted a general resume to a company today. i have now applied for 20 jobs and 1 internship. of those, 4 have passed the 'closing' date on the announcement but not sent me any response, 6 haven't closed yet or have no closing date indicated, 1 is for an 'always open' position, and 1 is that general resume. so there is still a chance. i don't really feel like i'm doing that badly...especially for someone who is overeducated and underexperienced. : )

car, jobs, money
