weekend of cleaning

Jan 19, 2008 15:40

so, i've been fearing the inevitable crash that comes from getting up too early. so far, i'm not doing too badly. i got two loads of laundry done before i went to the gym, and i've done four more since i got back. okay, i haven't folded and put away all of those loads yet. i've put away the clean dishes, packaged up and frozen the majority of the cake i made earlier this week (chocolate almond with almond frosting), and cleaned part of the kitchen counter. i've also done some work on the supplemental CD that will go with my thesis, and put together an e-mail for Friends of the Dunes discussing whether they want to try sending someone (possibly me) to a national conference to try and increase their exposure and funding opportunities. so, not too bad.

as the entry title suggests, my big plan for the weekend is to clean my apartment. it would be nice to have the place look like the domicile of a responsible adult and not that of an unruly teenager. hush, no commentary from the peanut gallery. anyway, i'm gonna stick a to-do list on here and see how much of it i can get done.

obviously, most of the mess is from the need to organize and put away stuff. sometimes i still get confused by how i have no storage space but have so many closets. it's weird.

in other space hogging news, i finally figured out part of why i own so many books. part of it is i just like keeping my books in general, but another part is that i like series. and when i follow a series, i have to keep all of the books in the series. why? so i can go back and look stuff up when it's referenced in later books (i have a terrible memory), and because i often like to restart at the beginning of a series. it's a whole new reading experience when you go back and start again. it's like re-reading the Harry Potter series; scenes and events that you just thought were for color and interest turn out to have some deeper meaning in later books. it can also be really interesting to do a book after book read-through of a series and study exactly how the characters evolve. okay, i'm a book geek, but we knew this. of course, sometimes it's just fun to go back and reminisce with characters who are practically friends. : )

EDIT (16:30): oooh, i think i've hit the wall. waaaaant naaaaaap. except we all know i suck at napping. always end up sleeping. *l*
