just finished talking with RK about my thesis. actually went pretty well. i didn't get too pissed off, and he didn't annoy me too much. (notice how it's all about me?) there are a few points on which i still think i'll happily ignore himl, and a few more where he made a comment but failed to explain it well or give me a clue how to fix the problem. typical but pretty low level. he even said something helpful about how to "fix" my Contributions to Knowledge. i still think the whole section is self-aggrandizing bullshit...and the student doing the work for the examiners...but it'll stay. as i have no faith that any of my examiners will read more than the Abstract and the Contributions to Knowledge, the CtK will definitely stay.
i have a question, though. is it really fair to say to a student, "you need to include X" (regarding statistics) and when they student confesses to knowing nothing about stats (i took vector calc instead), say, "well, then you have some reading to do." i mean, sure, i can dig around and learn it by myself (probably), but is it really such a hardship for an advisor...a teacher...to take the ten minutes and teach me the technique? i know he's busy, but isn't that his job? oh well. whatever.
anyway, i'm going to pack my stuff up, go home, and ignore the thesis for the rest of the day. instead, i'm going to install the new DSL modem / wireless router that Bell sent me today. that'll be fun, right?
p.s. roasted grasshoppers taste kinda weird.
