all the transferring of data and burning of DVD's took even longer than expected, and i wasn't able to leave work until after 7 o'clock Friday evening. and the only reason i was able to leave then was because RK lent me one of his external hard drives so that i could bring the remaining files home and burn them to DVD with Maia. her burner is waaaay faster and home is a much better place to be hanging around than school.
of course, this totally killed the plans that
desolatedrose and i had to go downtown for the Jazz Festival. no big, though. we went and got poutine at Basile...and while we were there it started pouring! so we weren't too upset about missing Jazz that night. it wasn't like there was anyway playing that we were just dying to see. instead we hung out at my place and watched movies and stuff as usual. she stayed over so that it would be easy to go to the gym in the morning. which would have been even easier if there wasn't a stupid construction crew that showed up at 7 AM on Saturday morning to unload and set up one of those trash tubes from the roof to the parking lot (they're fixing the building roof starting July 3). it took them three hours (i mean, really! i could have done it by myself in less time), and they were really noisy. i almost committed several acts of swearing and possible murder. it was ridiculous. eventually, we dragged ourselves to the gym and then grabbed some lunch. luckily, by the time we got back the idiot construction guys were gone. so, yeah, we took naps.
after getting some much deserved (and needed!) sleep, we headed downtown for the Jazz Festival. it was great. we picked up sushi for dinner and sat on a curb in the sun while we ate and listened to
Jodi Proznick Quartet...who were pretty good. doesn't get much better than that, does it? after we ate, we started touring the various stages. heard some good stuff. one stage had
Shakura S'Aida who was just wonderful! i mean it, go to her website and check out some of the clips she has on there. sadly, there's no clip for the song that made
desolatedrose and i lean against a tree with our eyes closed and just...experience the music. if it says anything, her CD's totally sold out at the CD tent. heard some more stuff. did a souvenir run on the boutique and a CD run on the CD tent (i have nooooo self control). got some ice cream. had fun. the last group we watched was fronted by this semi-local kid
Deweare. kinda skinny lookin', kinda geeky, obviously hopped up on an extreme amount of sugar / caffeine / Red Bull, with this glorious deep voice. we were just floored when we heard that voice come out of his mouth. and he was so fun to watch. : )
on the way to the metro and home, we got distracted by a woman in an interesting red coat, sitting on a suitcase in the middle of a cleared space in the street...obviously a show of some sort. then she brought out the fire; we had to stay...for the
Pyro Kabaret. the woman who did the show as pretty good. she did some dance, some comedy, some fire swallowing, some acrobatics, green fire, a spark shower, and some dancing with the swirly spinny fires on chains. i actually managed to get some decent pictures...especially once i remembered the "continuous" function on my camera.
we finally managed to leave the area after that. we were starved and wired though. so we grabbed some food. watched Star Wars after we got back to my place...while i was good, and made those DVD's of my data. we just bummed on Sunday...only going out to grab some dinner. got caught up on the new season of Doctor Who (caught up for Canada anyway) before i took her home. also took the external hard drive back to the lab. it's so weird being at school at one thirty in the morning. came back and did some laundry. then i got distracted with my Jazz Festival pictures and Adobe Photoshop. got a new userpic out of the deal (see! see! see!). i leave you with a
video of the Pyro Kabaret...not mine! (it's from the website.)
