also different and new. what, you ask, is that? that would be the experience of having Izzy's brakes go out. yup, an honest to god, my brake pedal went all the way to the floor experience. and before you ask, i didn't hit anything...or anyone. in fact, i was actually stationary at the time. i'd headed out of work early to take
desolatedrose to her tutoring gig while her car was in the shop. waited around and was about to take her to go pick up her car when Izzy expressed a desire to go to the garage herself. a little careful testing proved that i could still come to a stop if i was going pretty slow, so i gritted my teeth and
desolatedrose very bravely rode with me, and took the back roads to the garage. i've said it before, i'll say it again...i love my stick shift. i managed a couple of stoplights and numerous stop signs with no trouble. downshifting is goooood. anyway, dropped Iz off, and
desolatedrose drove us to the gym and dropped me off at home after. she's also the bestest friend ever 'cuz she even came to pick me up today and gave me a ride out to Ste. Anne so i wouldn't miss my dentist appointment. if i hadn't had that appointment, i would have just called RK and said i was working from home today. (of course, depending on how long my car takes, i may do that tomorrow.)
the big problem with Izzy being broken is deciding how much she's worth in repairs. 'cuz she's not worth anything except in terms of having a car to drive. of course, considering past repairs that izzy has required, i'm kinda hoping that the brakes failed because a bracket rusted and broke causing all my brake fluid to leak out. i could live with repairing that. now, if i have to scrap her, my parents are willing to drive up with the Tacoma for me. they don't really want to have to do that yet, but they'd probably do it. but then i'd have to deal with getting the truck registered and licenses and added to my insurance...for six months or so. yeah, almost more paperwork than it's worth. i could technically live without a car for a while; i've done it before. i just can't imagine getting prepped for moving without a vehicle. bleh. but we'll see. i'll keep thinking happy Izzy thoughts.
in other news, i spent the whole weekend sanding, staining, and varnishing (is it still called varnishing when you're using polyurethane and not varnish?). i also love my new electric sander. it actually works better than i thought it would, and it definitely saved me a lot of time and shoulder pain. yay! the biggest problem with this project is the lack of places to stick the shelves while they dry. i have to work with them in 'shifts' of six. at this point, everything is stained, the shelves and back stops all have one coat of polyurethane and have been sanded for the next coat, and half of the shelves have a second coat of polyurethane (except for their bottoms 'cuz i have to wait for the tops to dry before i can flip them over and do the bottoms). this project is gonna take forever. i'm still have fun with it, but it's not letting me get very far on the whole 'clean the apartment before i have company' thing. oops. actually ran out of stain on Saturday and had to run out for more on Sunday. also stopped and got another skein of yarn, so that i could make my tea cozy thicker. yay!
anyway, should at least pretend to work since i didn't get anything done yesterday.
