One of my many wonderful Christmas presents this year was a new digital camera--the first I've ever owned, in fact! I'd been holding out for a long while for a digital SLR, but the prohibitive price and bulk convinced me to go for a compact with some manual control for now. I was given just the thing: the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8 (thanks to jethrien for mentioning it). No more smudgy photos with the camera on my cell phone! I'm still messing around and learning how to get the best photos out of it, but here are two I like so far. They were taken on the shore of the Hudson River the day after Christmas, when I accidentally fell asleep on the train and had to get off at Greystone to wait for another one back to Yonkers. Nature did all the work for me.







Now I suppose I need to finally learn to use Flickr properly to organize all the pictures I hope to be taking...
