Europe - Part 2

Jul 10, 2007 13:35

Okay, so I'll try and pick this up again where I left off but I'm feeling kind of sick at the moment (threw up randomly last night =.=)..

Paris - Day 4
Did all the museum type thingies today. Went to the Museum D'Orsay, which was really interesting, but then I got tired and hungry and kind of bored, so I ended up sitting for long periods of time while Brendan looked around. That Rodin is a major pervert though...I don't think anyone else has quite done so many sculptures of naked people, and to think that he would of needed models to pose for those sculptures......hehe. Okay, then the next stop was of course the Louvre. There were so many people crowded around the Winged Victory (it's huge!), Venus De Milo (meh) and around the Mona Lisa (not quite as small as people say, but I can't say if it's worth all the attention or not because we didn't stay around for very long - too many people can get really annoying). It was lots of fun to wander around the museum actually, but you get disilluioned about it and kind of end up going - eh...it's just another masterpiece. They've got good seats at the Louvre though, and a ridiculous number of paintings of dead hares...which was really odd, but kept me entertained until closing time. We also met a random American called John (?) who was actually very nice, but kind of socially awkward. He was funny though, it's a pity that we didn't run into him again. Infact, the Americans that we actually bothered to talk to were very nice =). One of them was actually in Paris for some random celebration of the work of his mathematics professer of all things. Needless to say that Brendan liked talking to him. Hehe.

Paris - Day 5
...I can't remember what we did today....uhh....I think that we might of gone to the Eiffel Tower some days ago, probably the day after we came back from Disneyland...it was purdy =). I'd like to go there again, haha. Umm, but day 5...I think that we went around Notre Dame and the main city area though I'm not too sure actually....*blush*. Notre Dame had a lot of tourists, as you would expect, but we managed to catch the end of a choral performance which was wonderful. The acoustics in old churchs are amazing! Gah! And there were also multiple LCD screens placed around the church, though I highly doubt that they were there from the building of the church >.< Hehe. I think that this was also the day that we randomly wandered around till we found a modern art museum, we didn't go in, but random people gave us Pepsi Light outside...hehe, the advertisment said 'no entry for males', or something like that in French...hahah. We were meant to go Amsterdam this night, but we couldn't find accomodation so we put it off until the next day. We booked tickets for the train though, can the first class tickets were cheaper for students than the standard second class tickets, so we weren't complaining about getting first class tickets =). Hehe, lots of fun.

Amsterdam - Day 6
Not much happened today =). Finally found a hostel after wandering from one side of the town to the other. It's a beautiful city but I was tired and grumpy again, so when we actually found a hostel, I kind of collapsed on the bed and refused to go with Brendan to the Anne Frank House. I did go for a walk by myself, but didn't feel game enough to go to the Red Light District by myself, and ended up getting lost. I found my way back in one piece though so everything went well =).

Amsterdam - Day 7
More museums! Hehe. The Rijkmuseum was good even though they had closed most of the musuem for renovations =). Lots of fun though. Haha, I've seen enough paintings though =). Though we did go to the Van Gogh museum after that though, and I enjoyed that =). He was an interesting character, but as Brendan would say 'he shot himself in the chest, in the middle of a field. He's strange'.  Heheh. I like his paintings...but I think I saw Hitler's face in the eye of one of his portraits, except for the fact that Van Gogh died before Hitler was born O.o...I think that I'm going insane as well =). We got back to the UK safe and sound though =).

Farnborough/Home (Surrey, UK)
Mmmm...sleep.

London - Day 9
Bleh, cold, wet and boring...most of the sights cost money, or when we got to them, they were a let down. Though Big Ben was cool, and we randomly found a Star Wars Exhibition. No time to go see it though I did get a picture with a Stormtrooper =). I'll post the pictures up later, though it's on facebook if you want to see it now =)

Hehe, getting kicked off the comp again =). Take care.
