Rating/Warnings: PG-13
When: January 13th
Where: Tomoka's room and Yumiko's office
What: In the end, he was a vampire.
Tomoka had demanded room christening and what better way to officially do it than for her beloved to sneak in for a mini party! Having a room to herself had that nice perk at the very least. She finished setting up the small platter of various food on the table and was now waiting to pour their drinks. It was just about time for him to slip in as she'd instructed. Weekends were always good because the dorm ended up being quite deserted for most of the day. Perfect timing to sneak her Night Class boyfriend in. She had already broken tons of rules anyway, what was the harm in one more, right?
Ever since they had gotten back from break she felt a bit distant from him too. She thought she had been tired... he didn't even answer back to her texts or anything! At least he had finally picked up when she came up with this fun little plan. Sure they had spent the whole break together but she hardly remembered much after her hibernation. It was exhausting keeping him and her brothers entertained literally all day. Though she did love spending so much time with him even if he had seemed tired a lot. Perhaps he had gotten sick and not said anything..?
Oh well, it wouldn't matter in five minutes when he's slip through the window and join her.
He shouldn't, he knew that. Shouldn't visit her. Not when he felt like this; uncomfortably faint and with the thirst for blood, the need to feed, strong like a fever in his veins, but he wanted to see her, wanted to spend time with her, wanted to... He wasn't sure. In spite of his usual agility, he stumbled a bit, trying to climb through her window, but it went without too much of a hassle at least. "Tomo!" Smile. Don't show her how tired you are. Right.
"Satoshi~!" she cheered as he climbed in the room. The pigtail-haired girl leapt up and embraced him. He was a bit cold and a small draft had slipped in with him but it was a bit comforting. She ignored the small chill that ran down her back and instead enjoyed cuddling her boyfriend for a moment before letting go. She still had drinks to pour, couldn't let the hot water sit too long.
Her neck, close to him and... He blinked, grinning down at her. "Missed me, did you?" He released her and went to sit down, trying his best to keep from stumbling.
"Of course I did!" she pouted lightly, handing him a mug of hot cocoa. "It's felt like eternity since we were together alone." Tomoka giggled, winking over to him as she sat down as well. She didn't quite sit next to him yet as she was still pouring her own drink.
He smiled at her, accepting the cup and blew gently on it, hoping his hands didn't shake too much. At least the liquid didn't spill over, that was something, right?
After she finally had her on drink in her hands she took a small sip after cooling it down and was content. She then moved herself to rest against him happily, he head on his shoulder. He looked a lot better than before, at least she thought he did. Though she was probably just too happy to see him to pick up on anything else.
"So what do you think?" She was referring to the room and the food spread of course, which she imagined was obvious.
"It's... N--nice. I can see a lot of ski--" Stop staring at her neck! "---Skill in the decoration...!" Oh please, someone, this wasn't working, was it? His hands began shaking more and more, hot cocoa spilling out on his hands.
She was about to giggle and tease him at his weird answer when she glanced down to see the hot drinks spilling on him. "Satoshi!" she panicked slightly, moving away from him to quickly set her drink down. "Are you alright?" Tomoka grabbed some napkins to wipe his hands and took the mug from him to set down on the table as well. "What's gotten into you love, do you need ice on it?" she worried as she finished wiping the cocoa from his hands. She kissed them softly when she was done, holding his hands in hers gently. Maybe it wasn't such a great idea to call him over, the silly boy he should have told her...
"I'm fine, I'm..." He grew quiet as his mind emptied itself. The darkness that had been at the edges of his vision filled out, expanded. Horio wasn't aware of it himself, he wasn't aware of anything at this point, but his eyes turned upwards and into his head, only whites showing and then he fell over, onto her, knocking both of them into the floor, cocoa spilling everywhere.
The impact had taken her plenty by surprise so much that the cocoa spilling onto mainly the floor didn't bother her too much. He didn't hurt her too badly, but she had no real time to cushion herself so between his collision with her and hers with the floor she was feeling a bit tender.
"Sa-.... Satoshi..?" she managed to gasp out when the feeling came back to her beneath him. Just how tired had he been to pass out like that out of nowhere? She was kicking herself already for it; some observant and caring girlfriend she was.
Well, she wasn't getting any response from him. His body was heavy and numb, it didn't even look like he was breathing.
After Tomoka was done kicking herself over the whole thing she tried to glance over at him. He hadn't responded to her when she called out and it definitely didn't look like he was conscious. Right, she needed to get him off and then figure something out. Probably call the nurse as she wasn't too confident she could bring him there herself. Maybe she'd go get Eiji and Sengoku for help too. Yeah, she'd fix this somehow and take the full blame because it was her fault in the first place.
"Hang in there, love..." she whispered even though she knew he probably couldn't hear her. She pushed both off them slightly off the ground with all of her strength enough so she could reposition them both. Rolling slightly out from under him she moved so his head was now resting in her lap and she was sitting upright now. There was still a slight pain to her chest and back from the earlier impact but at least Horio would be alright as she figured things out.
His eyes were still closed, he still seemed to be unconscious, but one hand moved, as by its own accord, fingers moving like spider legs, searching... for something.
She took no notice of his wandering hand as she leaned over to touch her forehead to his wishing his eyes would open. If only he'd just wake up and say he just happened to fall asleep or it was all a joke. Tomoka didn't think it was anything life threatening, she didn't want to think it was; because if that was the case all she could do was blame herself for him being there like that now. She leaned her head on his shoulder now, hoping to hear his steady breathing to calm her down even a little. Just some sign that he was alright or asleep...
But there was no breathing. No heartbeat. Still the hand moved, fingers closing in on her hand.
Her heart sank slightly when she couldn't hear his breathing. This couldn't be happening for real, could it? It was probably all just in her head from the panic and collision. Yeah, that was it. There was no way he could just stop breathing from exhaustion. Could he..? She was about to start shaking him to try and get a response when she felt his hand touch hers. Instinctively she moved away from the touch but when she looked over to see she let out a huge sigh of relief.
"Satoshi... don't scare me like that." she gasped out, her heart had nearly leapt when the touch had startled her. Maybe he was just playing a joke on her; he must have been hanging out with Sengoku too much or something...
His eyes snapped open, suddenly, glazed over and unfocused. Hands gripped her arms, hard, as he heaved himself upwards, and his face came close to her, closer, closer, until his mouth touched her neck. Not his lips. Nor his tongue. But teeth, sharp and pointy. No breath over her exposed skin, but the teeth found flesh, warm flesh and soft skin, and they bit down. Hard.
Tomoka had no time to think, or scream from the pain. She froze, unable to move under his ridiculously strong grip. Satoshi was fine, he was alive... but what was he?! This had to be a joke, right..? She was dreaming, right?!
"Sa-...toshi..!" she gasped out as she felt the odd and disturbing sensation. Oh god, this was real and really happening. She couldn't move to defend herself or jerk to get him off, she was too terrified. That momentary relief from earlier that he was awake and alright was gone. Her whole body shook and she felt pale and faint. If only she could have just been the typical weak girl and have just passed out then...
The blood, her blood, warm, alive and human, filled his mouth, streamed down his throat, revitalized him. He held one arm around her, while the other still held onto her arm, and he drank and drank... And then, his mind cleared up, he realized what he was doing. To whom he was doing it, and he bolted, pushing himself away from her, teeth and lips stained red, as red as her neck and the collar of her uniform blouse. "... N--No..."
Blood, it felt like it was everywhere. The smell of it made her tense up and the feeling of it being taken from her and littering her neck and collar terrified her. She made no effort to stop herself from just collapsing on the floor when he had pushed away from her. Her mind was riddled with questions but her instincts screamed at her to run away or call for help and most of all to get as far away from him as humanly possible. But even if she did, a vampire could probably catch her easy.
That was right... that was what he was. After all this time of joking with them and investigating with Eiji in the end the answer had been right in front of them the whole time. Tears slipped down her face as she came to the strange and horrifying realization. She was too tired suddenly to scream, or run away, or even move. Even the will to speak had escaped her, she just looked over to him with scared and confused eyes.
He felt like he wanted to throw up, but that wouldn't help matters any. He wanted to take her into his arms and tell her that everything would be okay, but... Would it? It couldn't. He didn't know what to do, really not, so the only thing that came to mind was removing his shirt and handing it over to her. Then he figured that she probably wouldn't be able to move on her own accord - shock - so instead he rolled the shirt up into a tight ball and slowly approached her, aiming to try and stop the blood with the shirt. What can I say? What can I do? What do I say to her...?!
She tensed when he approached on instinct and wince when she felt him close to her trying to stop the blood. Everything in her told her to be scared and shocked and stay still to stay safe or run away. But deep down she didn't want to, she wanted to know why things had happened the way they did. She wanted to know why he had kept it a secret, why everyone was keeping it a secret; and why he had suddenly bitten her. But the words wouldn't come yet, she felt cold and tired but refused to give into it.
"Tomo, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he mumbled, flashing back to that winter night when he had gotten close, but hadn't really, but now they were in school, were supposed to be safe and he still had... He still had... His hand shook again, but not from withdrawal this time, as he dabbed gently at her wound.
Ah, she could hear his voice. He sounded okay, but just as shaken as her. Why was that? Wasn't this something normal for a vampire to do? But then again why wasn't everyone getting bitten, and why hadn't he done it before. She sensed him shaking as he touched her wound trying to clean it. That silly boyfriend of hers, he was no good in a panic in the past and even now. Yeah, that was right he was still her boyfriend no matter what he really was. And she was just happy he wasn't unconscious like before, even if it seemed to have been at her expense. She tried to blink the tears out of her eyes but they kept coming. So she mustered her strength, glancing over to him, and barely muttered above a whisper; "Sa-... to... shi..?"
"Shh, don't talk... God, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I..." Suddenly, unnaturally fast, he was on his feet, and was over by one of the walls, slamming his head into it. "Fuck it!" He never, ever meant for this to happen, he didn't, and now he couldn't take it back. He had hurt her. He had ruined her trust in him. He had violated her. Maybe not in the usual sense, but still. But still.
That idiot. That loveable, caring, silly, stupid idiot. But he was hers, and she wouldn't let him beat himself up physically as much as she had been doing to herself mentally earlier. Taking a deep breath, she grabbed for his balled up shirt and used as much strength as she could muster to throw it at him. It landed a bit short and hit his foot instead though. She never knew she could be so weak getting blood taken from her. "St-... stop...it..." she coughed out, tears still staining her face.
"Satoshi..." She tried to smile as best as she could for him. That torn up face didn't suit any boyfriend of hers. Too bad she couldn't find the strength to bop him on the head or something. She was still shaken, but maybe the exhaustion from the blood loss was actually helping to take the edge off.
He heard a soft sound behind him, a 'thud' or something like that. He stopped, for a moment, that sound and the weak sound of her voice pulling at his attention. He looked at her - crying, she's still crying, I made her cry it's all my fault what am I going to do - and stumbled away from the wall, coming over to her, falling down on his knees in front of her. "To--Tomo..."
"... I was never going to bite you. Never, ever. I promise." He babbled, blubbered, crying as well. "I... wasn't. I just... I... I just..." He wasn't sure what he was getting at, what he was trying to say. He just wanted to apologize.
Well darn, now he was crying and blubbering like a fool. But he was her fool. "Silly..." she sighed and leaned against him, tired. "I know that.." He didn't have to try to find words to apologize. She knew he was sorry, and she was sorry too for dragging him there like that. The signs had all been there she just never noticed. "It's okay..." she whispered softly, the shock subsiding from her.
He looked at her, in awe. "You're... strong. I... I could never... never be... You're amazing, Tomoka." He sniffled, wiping his face. "... Or you're just plain stupid and self-destructive." Dead-pan.
"You could just say I'm crazy..." she coughed, trying to make an attempt to laugh. "But I... Could say the same to you, dating me..."
"Yeah, I shouldn't. Should stay away, but... You're just so amazing. Like... Dazzling. And captivating. And... The best girlfriend I've ever had." Dude, she's the only girlfriend you've ever had...
"You bet I am." she smiled, resting on his shoulder. "But you're pretty hot yourself." Tomoka tilted her head to kiss him on the cheek. And though she didn't quite say it, he was actually the best boyfriend she'd had, the sweetest even if he was an idiot sometimes. Even if he had bitten her... She winced slightly, remembering that she still had a wounded neck.
"Y-yeah..." At her approving of herself. Not so much her approval of him. His eyes traveled to her neck and he bit his lip (without drawing blood, thank you very much), fidgeting. "Ma-maybe we should have Fuji-sensei have a look at that..." She's going to kill me... His shoulders drooped.
"I'm fine... I think." she lied, obviously she wasn't from the blood loss and shock. No doubt she was quite out of her mind leaning against him as if nothing had happened. But she didn't want to get him in trouble, or furthermore to be separated from him. It was odd, and probably a bit delusional. "I'm just tired..." she mumbled, nuzzling his shoulder slightly.
"Doubt you are," he said dryly, combing his fingers through her hair. "You're pale and you're kind of sweating. You know. Cold sweat. That kind of means you've lost a bit too much blood. We really should go see her."
"But I don't want to..." she pouted, burying her face in his shoulder. Of course she really did as she was feeling woozy suddenly. But she still stubbornly didn't want him to be in some sort of trouble. Yeah, she had definitely lost it a little.
"You'd rather bleed to death here?" He chided, lifting her up in his arms. Again, he was surprisingly strong, even more than usual, after having fed so recently. "I won't leave your side, promise." If Fuji-sensei doesn't kick me out of the school at least...
"Okay..." Not that she had much choice in the matter now that he was carrying her off. "A jacket would be good though." She may have been out of her mind but even she knew being carried around campus bleeding would lead to some unwanted attention.
He - of course - hadn't thought that far. Oops. A jacket, a jacket... Oh, he could use that one! What a genius he was! Not that it was a jacket, it was a drape hanging in front of a window, but pfft, who wanted to get hung up on details? He wrapped it around her, and managed to get his hand holding her wrapped up as well, but that didn't matter. Maybe. He hoped. That they looked incredibly ridiculous couldn't be helped. In fact, he didn't even reflect over this fact.
Tomoka was too dazed by this point to even care. If she wasn't she would either laugh hysterically or kick him for being stupid. But hey, at least he managed to hide the blood, that was a start. She was too tired to think about... well much of anything other than it was probably wise for her not to close her eyes and actually rest until they were at the office. It was proving to be a bit difficult until she was hit by the cold wind outside, it made the wound sting a bit even if it was hidden beneath the drape.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, he repeated mentally to himself as he carried her outside, over the yard and then inside again, heading for Yumiko's office. Once there, he swallowed, hand shaking as he reached out to knock on the door. "Fuji-sensei...?"
"Come in, dear. It's open." Well if it wasn't the voice of one of her favorite patients! It was a good thing she hadn't decided to go on her break after finishing up most of her paperwork for the day. Yumiko had been idling her time on the computer checking up on everything and was about to head out for a bit. She hadn't been expecting a knock let alone for it to be one of her more promising patients. Perhaps she'd use this time to see if he'd be interested in trying the new tablets. The nurse had been hoping that he wouldn't be needing them after trying to set him straight. In fact she had heard he'd gone home with that human girlfriend of his on the winter break. He must have been getting by just fine.
He opened the door and stumbled inside, Tomoka in his arms. "I messed up. Sensei, I messed up. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, please, do something, help her, please!"
This was definitely not the news Yumiko was hoping for or expecting, but it was no time to scold the boy or lecture him, the girl needed to be attended to right now. She moved to swiftly close the door behind them and then to ready a bed.
"Set her down her carefully and unwrap her from that drape." she instructed strictly. She made no eye contact with him like she usually did and there was no comfort in her voice; there was no forgiving what the boy had done but for now she needed to help Tomoka. By now Tomoka was all but fighting to keep her eyes open, let alone pay much attention to what was going on around her. To the nurse's relief it at least didn't seem life threatening, but no doubt the shock and blood loss the girl had experienced alone had left her weak enough.
He could sense the disapproval coming from Yumiko, but just like the young nurse, he forced his own emotions out of the way for the time being and instead focused on Tomoka. He gently put her down and started to unwrap her; the morbid, unbidden image of him unwrapping a freshly bought steak jumping to his mind. He shook his head and stepped back once finished, backing away to the other side of the room, back meeting the wall and then he slumped down along it, sitting down with a small thud. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry...
Yumiko went to work immediately after Horio had retreated to the wall. She didn't have time to deal with him yet but at the very least he wasn't trying to run away from it. Wiping the blood away she cleaned out the wound a little more and then bandaged it up gently in case there was any more blood flow. Taking her arm, she pulled up the sleeve of her uniform and took her blood pressure. Of course it was down a lot more than normal but not life threatening. She would probably just need a good amount of rest and supplements to kick her system back into normal order. It didn't even appear she would be anemic; Tomoka looked to be quite the tough girl.
"It's alright to rest now, sweetie. You're safe." she assured Tomoka after she had finished everything. Tomoka took a deep breath and slowly shook her head in response. She then tried to lift herself up to search for Horio. Yumiko held her back gently. "You shouldn't move, dear. You need your rest now."
"Sa-... toshi..." she gasped, still trying to get up despite the nurses warnings. "I... want... Satoshi..." Yumiko was about to protest but when she saw the desperate look in the young girl's eyes she couldn't exactly tell her no. With a small sigh, she stepped away and stopped holding the girl down. She walked over to the vampire boy and sent him a stern look that said she was watching so he better be careful of what he did next. Moving back to her desk she pulled out her cellphone and stepped out of the office; she had an important call to make but would keep an eye out on the couple if the worst were to happen again. Despite herself and her disposition as a nurse there she couldn't help still wanting to trust him with her. They seemed so cutely in love like any innocent high school couple; but this was no typical high school fling. She sighed and dialed the number to the headmaster; there was no telling what the consequences would be but for now the least she could do was let them think over what had happened.
He didn't move at first, didn't know how to make his own limbs work. In front of his eyes he still saw the blood, her blood and it wasn't inside her, it was outside and inside, but inside him, not her, and... He shook his head, the faint sound of her whispers, of her breathing, reaching his sensitive ears. He got up, standing on his own two feet by the time the nurse had left the office. Slowly, uncertainly, he made his way over to the bed, taking Tomoka's hand into his. "Hi there. I'm here."
"Satoshi..." she sent him a tired smile. She felt a small wave of relief when she felt his hand grab hers. Now that the majority of the blood had been cleaned from her neck and the wound was cleaned and covered she felt a lot more relaxed. Though everything within her was still screaming to get away from him, she just wanted him by her side even more. "Don't leave... okay..?" she tried to command, though it came out as more of a plea. Not that she could blame him if he wanted to, she probably looked gross and horrible right now all pasty skinned and pale against the white sheets she was laying on. At least he seemed to look at lot better, aside from that sorry look on his face. What a way to look at your girlfriend~
"Hey, beautiful." His voice broke and he blinked furiously, trying to keep the tears from spilling over. He couldn't cry in front of her. It wasn't manly, it wasn't comforting, it just wasn't something he should be doing. Damn it. "Leave? No way. Not until they drag me kicking and screaming away from here, and I kind of hope that won't happen anytime soon." He didn't doubt he would be punished for this, but right now, he didn't want to think about that. He wanted to focus on Tomoka. "Uh... Does it hurt very much?"
"No, not at all." she lied. There was no need to worry him any further, it was obvious he was torn up enough. It just stung a little but she could deal with it. The small pain actually kept her awake enough to spend whatever time they had together. She had a strange sinking feeling that this could be the last time they saw each other and she hated it. That nasty pessimistic idea that if she closed her eyes she wouldn't see him again. "So... you're really..?" she couldn't help finally asking now that she could sort of think past the flight instinct in her.
His hand's grip around hers tightened a little bit as he nodded. "I... Am. Not turned or anything, I'm born like this. I have the... virus. So... Uh. From some viewpoint or whatever I guess you could say that I'm infected. But I haven't infected you. I promise. You won't turn into a freak."
"A freak..? And here I was all... excited to bite you back.." she joked lightly, hiding her slight relief behind it. Tomoka took in a deep breath to make up for all the talking and tried to squeeze his hand back, but didn't quite managed since she could hardly move her arms or anything. "So... the others too?" If that was the case then the answer had really been right in front of her the whole time. After all the jokes and teasing she would have never guessed that vampires were really real and right in front of her. Or hell, that she was even dating one. But now she had a lovely piece of proof of that in the form of a fang hickey.
Well, why deny it?
"The entire Night Class."
At least he was straight to the point. Though that one still took her a bit to process. Everyone in the Night Class; what in the world was the school thinking? "I-I see... then even Jirou... and everyone else." That brought her back to the night he had kissed her neck and gotten all strange. He was about to bite her? And then even more recently before break when she was with Horio. She had almost been bitten so many times and never realized it. What a strange world it really was. She couldn't help going quiet for a few moments after processing everything.
Maybe... Maybe he shouldn't have said it. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything. Well, maybe he shouldn't have bitten her in the first place. So many maybes that weren't really maybes but simple facts. He too fell silent and stared down at her hand, his hand... His own hand shivered. Hers didn't.
"Satoshi..." she finally spoke up to break the silence. "Thanks for telling me the truth." Tomoka smiled up at him. His hand was shaking and it made her feel uneasy, like that sinking feeling from earlier was shared between them. She didn't want this to ruin things between them or get him in trouble. If only she hadn't asked and insisted on staying in her room maybe everything would have just blown over without anyone ever finding out but them. Her hand shook ever so slightly in his now as well as she was overcome with that dark feeling of being separated from him.
"Of... of course." He swallowed. "I... I love you. I love you. I love you." It was all he could think of saying, but maybe it was good enough. Maybe it could calm her down. Maybe it could keep them together. Maybe.
He doubted it.
"I-..." It occurred to her that she hadn't ever fully returned that simple expression of affection to him even once. Tomoka had a hard time saying it to anyone truthfully, even to her family sometime. Those words never seemed like they meant enough to do anything because they were just words. But right now, they were the most comforting ones she could hear. "I-I love you too, Satoshi... I love you too..." she replied, feeling her heart ache a little as she felt tears slide down her face. Of course it would take her until the worst situation to say it back to him, what a horrible girlfriend she was...
