Yuuta had never been in a girl’s room before. Well, he had gone to Yumiko-aneki’s room, but that was different. It hadn’t made him nervous like now. He wasn’t even sure why he was nervous. It was just a room… a friend’s room. Yes, Sakuno was a friend like any guy would be. There was no reason to be nervous, right? It was normal to go into a friend’s room... even if it was a girl’s room. Yuuta shook his head. “Yosh, here goes”, he said silently and knocked Sakuno’s door.

Sakuno nearly jumped when she heard the knock. She didn't know why she it had made her so surprised she would, it wasn't as if she hadn't been expecting him. In fact she had been patiently waiting for Yuuta to arrive. Well, a bit anxiously waiting at least. She didn't know why she was a little flustered about the whole idea of a boy coming into her room. Sure he was a boy and it was the first time she'd ever invited one to her room but he was a friend. That was a normal thing for a friend and classmate to do, wasn't it..?

Oh but she was being rude. Quickly getting up from her seat, she went over to the door to open it for him. "C-come in, Yuuta." she spoke shyly, opening the door for him and motioning for him to enter.

“Th-Thanks”, Yuuta said and walked in. In his mind he lectured himself. There was no reason to be nervous or stutter. It was just a normal visit for studying. Yuuta looked around in the room. It was nicer than his. Must have been the girl effect, he thought. The rooms were all similar, after all. Yuuta looked over at Sakuno. “I brought something to eat with me”, he said and took something from his bad and handed it over. “It’s, uhm, some leftover-raspberry pie. My aneki sent me some and I didn’t finish it all this time…”

She took the leftover pie and brought it over to one of the side tables for later with a smile. "That was nice of her, thanks for bringing it. You didn't have to." she said quite normally. Surprisingly she was able to relax a lot more when Yuuta was finally in her room. Perhaps it was just the fact that it was her room she was able to calm down.

"Please have a seat wherever you like. I'm not sure where you enjoy studying, I know some people don't like to at a desk." she offered, motioning to the rest of the room. There were two chairs at her desk already prepared. She recalled when her father telling her he couldn't sit still to study at a desk when he was younger which is where she got the idea. Sometimes she found herself doing the same or studying outside to think better.

Slowly, Yuuta started to calm down. He was in her room. The room was a normal room. Just a friend’s room… so there was nothing to be nervous about. Even though a part of him would be nervous all the time, no matter what he did. Yuuta smiled a bit. “The desk is fine.” With that said he walked to the desk and took his books out of his bag. It would be easier to concentrate on studying when it would be a normal studying environment. And Yuuta was used to studying like that.

“Do you want to start with Algebra or English?”

"Whichever you prefer, I only had a few questions about the Algebra homework." Sakuno replied, joining him at the desk in the other chair. It was the first time she actually had someone to study with so she was almost excited. A silly idea sure as it was school work but she still couldn't help feeling happy about it. Yuuta was always so nice and helpful to her she just hoped she could be of some use as well this time.

"Would you like anything to drink before we start? I can make tea if you'd like." she couldn't help offering. Though she never really had friends or classmates over before she was used to treating company; namely her family members or adults who came to visit her parents.

“No thanks. I’m fine like this”, Yuuta said and took out the first book. “Let’s start with Algebra since it’s probably faster that way… I have way too many questions to ask on English, so…” It was rather embarrassing. He hadn’t focused on the lesson itself, so he had no idea what the assignment was about. And he didn’t want to ask aniki… no way. He would have wanted to know why Yuuta had spaced out. And that he didn’t want to discuss with his older brother.

At least in Algebra Yuuta would be able to help. He didn’t even need to pay attention on class - he was just good at solving the problems.  Self-studying did miracles… at least on some parts.

"Okay then." She settled herself in the chair as she had been prepared to get up and make them something. "That's fine, I don't think I had very many questions. There was just one concept I couldn't quite understand." she explained as she took out her homework and notes. Laying them out neatly on the desk, she found the sheets she had marked with her problem areas and presented them to the boy.

"Here, here... and here." Sakuno pointed to them and then shuffled through her notes. "I believe I wrote down everything I could during the lecture but every time I work out the problems... well, I'm sure you can see I don't exactly get the right solution." She was quite embarrassed that she couldn't figure out the concepts. Class hadn't been going on for too long so she believed it was probably a stupid mistake she kept making. The young girl was quite glad she had someone like Yuuta to help her.

“Ah, that really is quite complicated, but if you read the next chapter you’ll get it… here let me explain”, Yuuta said and took the next chapter out of his book and started explaining the assignment the way he saw it. It would have taken long for him to figure it out if he hadn’t read it on his free time. Algebra was just interesting, so he had spend time studying forehand. Usually he wasn’t so prepared for any class.

She nodded as she began to understand things more through the boy's explanation. Actually, it was all quite simple now that he explained it to her. It was no wonder she had been confused on the concept as she hadn't read ahead. Sure she was studious but reading ahead in a math class could sometimes spell disaster, at least in her past experiences anyway.

"Ah! I understand it now. So... like this?" she asked, resolving the problems and feeling a lot more confident of the outcomes now.

Yuuta smiled. “Yes, that’s right. You learn fast, it seems.” It was nice to see Sakuno understand his explanations. He didn’t feel like he was the best teacher, but at least he was able to get the point across, it seemed. “As long as you remember just a few things you should be able to solve most of the problems on this page… and with some added things the next page should be easy.”

Sakuno was sure to write down the new things she'd learned in her notes just in case. She couldn't help but blush slightly when Yuuta complimented her on the work. "It's thanks to you Yuuta, I wouldn't have been able to figure it out on my own." she smiled back to him a bit shyly.

The thank you made Yuuta blush a bit as well. “Oh, ah, I’m sure you would have figured it out sooner or later. It would have taken me a while too if I hadn’t read ahead, so if you’d had done the same you wouldn’t have probably even needed my help.” Somehow he was glad it was this way. He was able to help Sakuno and spend time with her.

“Right. Was that all? And should we take a break before continuing to the next subject?”

"Yes, I believe that's all the questions I had." she nodded, closing her notebooks. It was nice to be more confident about her answers now, perhaps she'd seek out help more often instead of studying by herself. Things were a lot more fun than being alone, or so she was starting to learn from her new campus life. "We can take a break if you'd like. I'm not sure how many questions you  have."

“Oh… not much. Just like, uh, ten? Haha…” Yuuta scratched his neck as he blushed a bit more, feeling rather embarrassed. “But I think I’d like to drink some tea now, if you don’t mind?” He didn’t want to rush into the next subject yet. Somehow, even if he felt embarrassed and felt like the faster he got out of Sakuno’s room the faster he would breath more easily, he didn’t want to leave just yet. It was rather complicated.

"Heh, that's fine then. Give me a moment I'll got make the tea now." she smiled again over to him as she scooted out of her chair. She headed to the other corner of the room where a kettle and all the necessary things were to prepare the tea. Keeping herself busy was a good way to keep her mind off the fact she was in her room alone with a boy. Not that she quite realized her anxiety herself.

It was rather nice. Just sitting there and waiting for tea. The room was nice and the company was the best he could possibly wish for right now. Yet, he was still a little bit nervous. At least his hands were a bit sweaty… Yuuta wiped them on his trousers and tried to look as natural as he could. He had survived this long. He’d be able to continue normally as well. Through English… which didn’t inspire him much.

As the tea finished brewing and she finally grabbed the cups and prepared to pour. Though it hadn't taken too long to prepare those silent moments seemed to pass by slowly. Her hand trembled slightly as she poured the tear into the cups for them. She took a deep breath to dispel the strange anxiety once more, it seemed to work. Grabbing the cups, she returned to her chair and handed Yuuta his cup with a smile. "Here you are sorry for the wait."

“Thank you”, Yuuta said as he took the cup. The aroma smelled nice and it made him feel a bit more relaxed. And it tasted as good as it smelled, even though Yuuta didn’t normally really care about tea. “This is nice.”

"I'm glad you like it." She took a sip herself. Sakuno was always used to serving and preparing tea in simple and traditional ways. However this was the first time she'd ever served a friend, let alone a boy, herself before. Her cheeks flushed just a little bit at the thought, she was happy he at least enjoyed it even if he was just being polite.

Yuuta smiled and drank the tea quietly… wondering if he should ask about pie. After thinking about it, he thought no. That was a present for Sakuno, not for him to enjoy. Unless Sakuno wanted to share it… but the pie was so good. And would taste good in company, too… but it was for Sakuno to decide what to do with it.

"Ano..." she began, a bit unsure if she should or not. "Would you like to have some of the pie now? Since we're already taking a break." Sakuno offered, figuring it was better to take a full break now while they were at it. She didn't want to let the pie Yuuta had brought along either, and there was no way the girl could finish it on her own. It would be more enjoyable with company, and his sister had gone through the trouble of making it for Yuuta. Sakuno wasn't about to let him not have some either.

When pie was mentioned a kid inside of Yuuta woke up. He’d get to eat it, which was always a good thing. And he wasn’t the one who mentioned the idea. “A-aa… sure. If you want.” Yuuta said, hiding the kid side of him.

"Okay then, give me a moment." she smiled and got up from her seat again after setting down her tea. Pulling out some plates and utensils, she gently sliced into the pie and set the pieces on the plates with forks. It was a really lovely pie, probably baked to perfection is she didn't know any better. Sakuno wasn't exactly the best patissier herself but she could appreciate a good job on making baked goods.

"Here you are." she smiled again, placing the piece of pie before him on the table. She patiently waited for him to have a bite before her as she sat back down.

“Thank you”, Yuuta said as he accepted the pie. Ah, the sweet scent of his sisters pies. How many times had he smelled it, but never got bored over it. And the taste… man it was good. It was rather embarrassing to get so happy over a piece of pie. He was showing his weakness to Sakuno… but he didn’t mind.

Sakuno couldn't help but giggle a little when she saw Yuuta slip into such a happy fit eating the pie. She could imagine how happy he was to be able to have his sister's pie, they must have been close. Grabbing a forkful of her own piece Sakuno joined him. She cupped her cheek slightly in her hand as the sweetness filled her mouth. "Your sister makes very good pies." she chimed cheerfully after swallowing. It was no wonder he had been so eager to try some.

Yuuta nodded and closed his eyes. “Aneki has a lot of experience on making them. She started when I was around five and has been improving the pie ever since”, he said and smiled at the memory. She had always been there for him, that Yumiko. Whenever Yuuta had been feeling down, he had been given a pie.

“It’s good that I’m a cheerful boy. Otherwise I’d be fat because of all the pies”, Yuuta admitted and grinned after opening his eyes.

"I see... no wonder she's so talented at it. I hope I can make pies this good one day." Sakuno smiled. "And I don't think you could ever be fat if you wanted to Yuuta, after all you love playing tennis so much." she giggled again, amused at the joke he had made at his on expense. It really was nice seeing him so cheerful all the time. She didn't know what she'd do if he wasn't... oh-- but why was she thinking of something so silly?

“Yeah… you’re right “, he smiled and sighed happily. “And I want to taste your pies one day. I bet you make good ones as well, since you have such a nice and tender heart. That’s a secret weapon, says aneki.” Yuuta had always believed that to be true. And if anyone had a heart like that, it would be Sakuno. He didn’t even realize he had said such embarrassing words as he began to eat the rest of the pie piece.

Sakuno felt her cheeks slowly warm up as the boy went back to eating his pie merrily. She knew he had just been trying to compliment her but his words had made her feel quite funny. Not funny in any bad way just, strange; like her heart fluttered slightly. "I... would really like to make you one someday soon then." she replied as casually as she could back. Which was the truth, but it felt a bit odd to say; as strange as the fluttering feeling in her chest. She decided it was a good idea to return to eating her piece as well before she became more self conscious of the growing red on her cheeks.

Hearing Sakuno say that she’d like to do a pie for him, Yuuta felt even happier for some reason. He looked forward to it. But there was something he didn’t really want to occur… back to studying. Not with English as a subject. But the books waited for him as soon as the pie and the tea were finished. And it was already getting late, so it would be best to start working on the studying...

“Thank you for the meal”, Yuuta said as he finished. “Now with a happy stomach, I can take anything.” Maybe.

Sakuno cleaned up the plates and cups from the desk and sat back down, grabbing her English notes and ready to help out. After all this was the whole reason the two had gotten together in the first place. She was sort of relieved that they were moving back on to the work but at the same time a bit disappointed; another odd feeling...

"So what was it you needed help with?" she smiled, her complexion back to normal and the flittering in her chest all but gone.

Yuuta took his notes and the right page from his text book. “Here’s one… I’ve tried to understand it, but it’s no use. Not even with a dictionary… and I have a few things over here that I was able to translate… but it didn’t fit the context.”

It was embarrassing really. He had been average on English at junior high, but high school brought a completely new difficulty level for him. Sometimes he wondered if he had skipped a couple of grades.

"I see..." Sakuno idly said as she examined the work Yuuta presented to her. Indeed, the things he had translated didn't quite fit the context. However the young girl noticed that upon further investigation there was really only one thing the boy had missed.

"Oh, I see what you did here. It was just a simple mistake, really. Here, try translating them again but use this." she explained, handing him a sort of cheat sheet she had made. It had the principle rules of English she had learned in middle school. A lot of times when transferring from middle school to high school teachers often expected the students to have already reviewed the basics. Thei school was no exception and no doubt that was what Yuuta was missing.

“Okay”, Yuuta said and examined the sheet for a while, before trying again. Somehow it was easier and he was able to understand the context this time. And the answer even felt right. “Oh, that was actually pretty easy. Thanks. I never would have figured it out without you and I would have been embarrassed at class.... haha.”

"I'm sure you would have been able to figure it out." she smiled, checking over his answers just to be safe. Yep, they were all right this time. "It's always hard to remember to go back and review sometimes. Seems like it happened to the both of us, heh~" No doubt with these new notes both of them would be able to figure out the remainder of their work just fine. It was a good thing they got together to study and Sakuno really enjoyed having his company.

“Yeah”, Yuuta said. “Hey… uh… thank you. It was fun studying with you.” He was really grateful. It would have been a boring evening without Sakuno’s company, most likely. And he wouldn’t have had the motivation to complete his homework. “If you need help with Algebra again, don’t hesitate to ask. I’ll always help.”

"Of course, thank you for the pie and help. And the same to you if you ever need help on English or anything again." she smiled, equally as grateful for his help and company. "It's always nice spending time with you, Yuuta." she said honestly, not realizing how embarrassing it would have felt if she had said so sooner. It was a good thing she had gotten over the awkwardness of being alone in her room with a boy. Too bad it was getting late... oh-- but that shouldn't have made a difference, she would see him tomorrow in class anyway. How strange she was having such odd thoughts...

“Yeah, it’s nice to hang out with you too Sakuno… chan.” Yuuta blushed slightly. He hadn’t meant to call her by her first name. Up until then he had called her Ryuuzaki and that had been fine by both of them. But Sakuno sounded good, too. “Do you mind if I call you that?”

"N-No, not at all, Yuuta." she responded with a smile. It had made her chest flutter a bit again when he had called her by her first name. It wasn't the first time a boy had but somehow it felt different. She tried to suppress the heat rising to her cheeks again and didn't quite notice that Yuuta was also blushing.

Yuuta smiled again and the gathered his things and got up. “I think I need to go back to my room… see you again tomorrow”, he said. He didn’t really want to leave, but it would be better to go… or get suspicious eyes from his roommate about where he spent so long studying. And he’d see Sakuno again the next day… but somehow it didn’t feel the same. He walked to the door and opened it. “Good night.” With that he walked out and closed the door behind him, walking towards his floor.

"Good night." she had managed before he disappeared from her room. When the door closed behind him it felt like the room was suddenly empty. The cheerful aura Yuuta seemed to bring with him whenever she was around the boy had left with her. However she still felt a strange lightness in her chest. For some reason she was excited to see Yuuta again tomorrow. Maybe she'd think about making that pie soon...
