I feel like I saw (and linked to) a test/storyboard version of this back when it was in beta, but the finished version is a-freakin'-mazing. You know all you FF6 fans would have sold your souls for this as chibis.

Also, transforming Esper Terra animation omgyessqueeeee. Also, my version of Celes. May actually have to try and icon some of this.

So I think this is a realisation that may have hit me before, and I may even have put into words before now, but regardless, in the moment it felt really quite revelatory. You know, I had never actually encountered this. I didn't know there were enemies on Solitary Island. It's a haunting detail, though, a touch of realism that, when you allow the significance of it to sink in, really does drive home the atmosphere of sorrow and hopelessness the game is trying to create at that point.
