You know, I never really understood the big deal about podcasts, and I was kind of confused about how they called them podcasts, but most people listened to them on their computers and not their pods, etc. I've slowly been converting into a believer over the last couple weeks, ever since I downloaded everything npr and kexp have to offer for my ( Read more... )

Could you direct me towards that Beverly Cleary interview? Salon.com had an article about her around her birthday as well. I remember the first line of it without even looking... "Oh Ramona Quimby, I didn't think you were a pest. I thought you were a girl just like me." And then I proceeded to bawl.

What is it about those books? Were they really that much better at capturing what it was like to be a young girl, or is it just that so much of our generation's collective memory is tied up in learning to read books about Ramona and feeling like we had a secret bond with this fictional everygirl? Oh man. The Beverly Cleary interview is at the very beginning of the April 10th podcast of All Books Considered. I think you can access it from the npr website, but I got it for free from itunes.
