Last night I was listening to some poignant music while looking through the large number of Manny pictures stored on my computer. I thought, when Patty Griffin's "Wishing Well" came up on my I-Tunes, that I had found the perfect song to express how I was feeling but it wasn't QUITE it. The answer to my "what is the right song" question came to me this morning while driving to work. I finally found a moment in my busy day to look up the lyrics. It's by a band I had the great fortune to know back in my central NY days, during their formative years as a band (and even prior to that, back when some of them were just kids playing on the street for spare change). Donna the Buffalo...a wonderful jam band that fuses all kinds of world music into a powerful mix. Anyway, this song, " Your Way Home," is from their "Positive Friction" album, and was written as a farewell to their longtime keyboardist when he left the band a few years back. I'm posting the lyrics here in tribute and appreciation to Manny for the good times that we will hopefully all remember.
"Your Way Home"
Music/Lyrics by Tara Nevins/Jeb Puryear
They say change comes and change is good
And that friends like us will endure all time
Then for the years we'll laugh until we cry
This with love is our goodbye
Chorus:
On your way home
Let our love be your guide
On your way home
Take the love we share
Silent times have switched and shifted
Heavy hearts wishing you could stay
The counter balance has been lifted
As we watch your tail lights fade away
Godspeed, Manny...may the bright lights of L.A. and other future destinations be good to you and your family. With love and tears...
sad face,
warm memories
