Top Five Meme: Part Two

Aug 24, 2009 01:17

Lazy Mandy is lazy. I could've had part two finished the next day, I just didn't feel like it. Alas, here it is (and I promise the next entry will be something not fandom related, for once.)

Back to this meme. My bff, judexseven, asked for my "Top Five Doctor Who Moments... without Jack Harkness". Brat.

Top Five Doctor Who Moments
(in chronological order)

That's Who I Am: Rose

Doctor: I can feel it. The turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at 1,000 miles an hour, and the entire planet is hurtling 'round the Sun at 67,000 miles an hour and I can feel it. We're fallin' through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go..

I've said this before, but that speech is just.. epic. It made the entire episode, and it's just so.... Doctor-like. I have my issues with RTD, and only a few of them pertain to Torchwood: Children of Earth. However, when Russell gets something right? It's brilliant. And that's this scene.

Everybody Lives: The Doctor Dances

Doctor: Everybody lives, Rose! Just this once! Everybody lives!!

It's rare.. practically never that you get a real, true happy ending in Doctor Who. I mean, the Doctor and his companions always save the day. Always. But there's always some consequence, even if it's as small as "the bad guys lose". In this episode, just once, there is no bad guy. Not the little boy, not the nanogenes, not even Jack (who isn't in this scene, so I'm not cheating!). We could all do with a little "everybody lives" in our lives.

Don't Blink: Blink

Doctor: People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect. But actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly... timey-wimey... stuff.

The Doctor is very, very quotable. Blink is one of my favourite episodes (see Doctor Who Top Five), despite the fact that it absolutely terrifies me. Maybe that's why I love it. The writing is spectacular, but I don't expect anything less from Moffat. And this scene, the Doctor's Easter Egg, is brilliant. Funny, witty, and scary. All in one. Also, I love that it's an actual easter egg on the S3 DVDs.

Allons-y!: Voyage of the Damned

Doctor: I'm the Doctor. I'm a Time Lord. I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. I'm 903 years old, and I'm the man who's gonna save your lives and all six billion people on the planet below. You got a problem with that?

This episode is not my favourite. It's not even my favourite Christmas special. But that really, is neither here or there. This is another epic Doctor moment, where he's all Time Lord-y and more awesome than your face. And I do like the fact that someone actually questioned him for once without blindly following him (and without falling into stupidity, mistrust, and murder, like in "Midnight"). The Doctor earns the right to be listened to and followed here, because whether you like it or not, he is clever, and he is going to be the one to save your ass.

Two Words: Turn Left

Donna: Doctor, what is it, what's Bad Wolf?
Doctor: It's the end of the universe!

This moment is thrilling. A really head spinning end to an already amazing episode, that leaves you questioning and theorizing for days. It's just brilliantly filmed, and the music is clearly what heightens the whole thing. And I absolutely love the Bad Wolf motif.

And then appleda asked me my Top Five Joss Whedon characters. This was definitely the most difficult one to do, mostly because I tried really hard to be strict about this, no cheating. So.. I have a top five. I also then listed five more characters.

Top Five Joss Whedon Characters

Five: Rupert Giles

Possibly my first obsession with men in suits (not that he wore them all the time). Giles was.. god. Every day I hoped I'd walk into school and find out we had a librarian as hot and intellectual as him. He's a Watcher, mentor, father figure, endless fountain of advice and knowledge with a rather surprisingly dark past. He's not perfect, but he's there when you need him. And did I mention really hot?

Four: Liam, aka Angel or Angelus

Oh my god, what girl wasn't in love with Angel? He's the quintessential dark, mysterious older man. Who's really hot and won't ever age. Slight bit of an anemic problem, I suppose, but that can always be worked around. Oh, and he can't ever be truly happy. Because if he does, he becomes even more hot. (Yes, I was incredibly attracted to Angelus. UHN.) And we can't have that.

Three: Captain Malcolm Reynolds

Captain Tight Pants. I think I have a thing for captains. And honestly. Big damn hero Anti-hero, backwater, slight Southern Charm (I normally hate "Southern Charm", but my god can Nathan Fillion pull it off), underdog, veteran. There's not much you can't love about Mal.

Two: William Pratt, aka Spike

I'm just.. I'm not even sure if I can explain my love for Spike. First of all, James Marsters. Secondly - poet, badass, walks that line between good and evil, vampire.... And while I really do not like Spike/Buffy (mostly because I stopped liking Buffy halfway through the series), I love that he's in love with her. Spike is a far more interesting character than first believed. I mean, hey, I did mention poet, right? :p

One: Willow Rosenberg

My all time favourite Whedon character. She was my fictional outlet before Ianto Jones was, the character on tv who I saw as me while I was growing up. Adorable, geeky, completely in love with the guy who looks at her as a best friend [until she got over THAT], sidekick, etc. And as Willow changed throughout the series, that's pretty much how I did, growing up. My high school years I defined myself as the red headed lesbian witch. (Sort of. My hair was (dyed) red, I'm bisexual, and I was briefly really interested in Wicca.) But that was Willow. I saw myself in her, and still do.

Five more characters (in no particular order):

Tara Maclay [Buffy the Vampire Slayer]
Billy Buddy/Dr. Horrible [Dr. Horrible's Sing A-Long Blog]
Jayne Cobb [Firefly]
Kaylee Frye [Firefly]
Daniel "Oz" Osbourne [Buffy the Vampire Slayer]

And lastly, iheartpears asked me for my "Top Five Broadway.. Whatevers." I chose memories.

Top Five Broadway Memories
(in chronological order)

Rent: May 14th, 2005

This was not only the first time I saw Rent, but it was my first broadway show period. I'd seen musicals, obviously but this was my first show in NY on Broadway. And I'm so glad it was Rent. One of my favourite shows ever, and one of the most influential and important of our generation. It's a show that will always mean a lot to me. For it being what it was, and for it being my first. Thank you, Jonathan Larson.

Altar Boyz: July 8th, 2005

Seeing Altar Boyz for the first time. Silly little Off-Broadway show about a Catholic boyband. I've already said a lot about this show, and how much it's changed my life, so... I'll just link to that.

MegaSlut Slut Fan Appreciation Day: November 5th, 2005

This pretty much only makes sense to the people who're there and a part of it, but... Ok. Slut The Musical, crazy fun silly Off-Broadway show. Had an incredibly loyal fanbase. And they... wanted to show they appreciated us. So there was one day set aside, we got discount tickets, and we had a party before the show. Pizza ON THE STAGE, with the cast, cause we're awesome. And we all were pretty close with the cast anyway. And it was piecesinplace's birthday. So we sat front row, center. You know, triple win. ;)

David Josefsberg's Cabaret: June 5th, 2006

David Josefsberg is my favourite broadway actor, one of my favourite singers, and quite possibly one of my favourite comedians. His cabaret had to be one of the best nights of my life - too much laughter and too many tears. So many freaking memories. And hi, I met Joey Kern ;)

The Wedding Singer Closing Show: December 31st, 2006

This is probably (one of) the most painful memories I have attached to broadway. I don't really care that The Wedding Singer The Musical wasn't the greatest show ever. It wasn't meant to be deep or influential or serious. It was silly and fun, and it meant a lot to me that year. So I took the closing show pretty hard. But it was also awesome, because we were all fans, and we were all experiencing that at the same time. Bang Your Head, indeed.
