I wonder, is it morbidly apropos or just in poor taste that I'm listening to Bad Religion's "Los Angeles is Burning" right now?
I've got an eclectic taste for music. For the most part, I'm partial to rock music, in various forms, but I'll listen to pretty much everything. For example, the last four CDs I've purchased have been (in order) Against Me!'s New Wave, ("Thrash Unreal" is a great song,) Feist's The Reminder, Paramore's "Riot!," (Misery Business is my favorite track on this one,) and Atreyu's "Lead Sails Paper Anchor." I'm not a huge fan or Atreyu by any means, in fact there are many songs that I just don't like, but I do like Crimson from one of their previous albums, and I like Falling Down enough that I decided to buy this one. You know, looking at the songs I pointed out, it sure seems like I've got an emo-thing going. Honestly, that's not the case. Prominent guitar, bass, and drum components I really like, and these all have them. Again, the whole rock thing. By contrast, I've got a few dance albums, some Best-Of's by The Who and Genesis, and Paul Simon is one of my all-time favorite artists ever. Mix in some classical, a healthy dose of modern pop, and NO country, and that's what I listen to.
Going back to Feist, I know she's been around for quite a while now, and I'll be honest in saying that I really only jumped on the bandwagon after looking up her songs that were used in iPod commercials. My favorite song is probably Mushaboom, which is a bit more up-tempo than her other songs. The rest of the two albums I have are okay for chilling and laying back with a manga or two, but I don't usually bother listening to them otherwise. However, her music videos are amazing. kira_, especially, should dig these. And, yes, I've done the research and found out that the video for 1,2,3,4 was all ONE continuous take, NO CGI or other visual editing. I'll give away the spoiler and say that it was filmed using a camera mounted on a robotically controlled crane. Still, it's pretty kick ass. Mushaboom is trippy, like you're having an Alice-in-Wonderland-but-it's-in-the-real-world dream. Finally, My Moon My Man is another great one-take video. It's like OK-GO's Here It Goes Again, but better quality and not meant to be as silly. For some reason, it also reminds me of Maroon 5, but I think that's just because they both have music videos that take place in an airport. Still, they're great fun to watch, and they have incredible choreography, which isn't something that I usually take note of. You know, because I wasn't in drama or marching band or anything like that. And I don't wear purple. Not that I'm saying anything by that. Ahem...
So yeah. In summation, I CAN'T FREAKIN' WAIT UNTIL GUITAR HERO III COMES OUT! It ships in 6 days, which I find a bit odd since I've never heard of a game releasing on a Sunday. With the exception of the first game, I've ordered the GH games through Red Octane's site (remember when all they had were third-party DDR mats and import versions of the game,
inaniloquent? Oh, wait, she doesn't even use her LJ account any more,) and I've always been a bit disappointed with their delivery times. The first time, with GHII, I used the free shipping, and it took almost two weeks for it to arrive after the game was released. Okay, so I knew it'd take a little while with the low-priority free shipping, but still. Then, for GH: Encore - Rock the 80's, I decided to pay the $5.95 for standard shipping. It still took about a week before I saw it, even though the company itself is only a 15-minute drive away from my house. You'd think they'd at least be nice enough and start shipping the day before the street date for all the people who put in pre-orders. Hopefully they'll be a bit faster this time, since it can't show up soon enough for me. Plus, there's still another month to go before we see Rock Band. Ugh...
