so rather than study like a good little girl...i was paroooosing the netscape message board 'cuz it was there. and there was a raging battle over abortion. I'm not going to get into that 'cuz it's a messy topic, but for teh record I'm pro-choice.
I wasn't suprised that maybe 2 of the whole list of people arguing actually had well planned arguements. and they were both on different sides of the issue. They were impeded in their debate by the right wing crazies claiming that 99% of abortions involve 'partial birth' (this was corrected by the other 2 who pointed out that the vast majority are chemically induced in the first trimester when said developing embryo is more of a collection of cells) and then some far left crazies who were attacking the right wing for religious blah blah blah
ANYWAY
so the point of this is basically.....the way I learned religion (and the way I prefer to look at things) is free will based. Basically, we're free to make our own choices and we have to be willing to accept the consequences whilst we're running around on earth. You're here, make the best, but be aware that shit happens. The almighty observes from afar, and in the end we'll have to stand by our choices and face judgement for our actions. The almight DOES NOT interfere in teh meanwhile ie you can't ask him/her to fix things for you, and every bad thing that happens to you isn't a "punishment from god' because you were bad. it was just bad luck. more or less, it's a hands off approach that allows people to make their own mistakes.
where am i going with this? A woman posted saying that a woman who ends up pregnant as a result of abortion should view it as a blessing because the almighty has willed it to be so. I found this apalling because I don't believe that g** is up in heaven going, ok, so, i'll make that guy rape that girl so she gets pregnant and she sahll be grateful..... or alternatively, i don't believe that bad things happen as punishment (loads of terrible people live long happy lives without having anything crap happen to them, just as loads of lovely people who do no harm end up dying young of some horrific illness etc. etc.). The old testament is full of sort of vengeful almighty stuff, but the new bits don't have it....so surely if you claim to be a christian (and thus follow the new testament) then you wouldn't believe in a vengeful almighty b/c you're supposed to be loving one another and all that jazz...and that being the case, then you wouldn't believe that bad things happen as punishment.
So at the end of the day, I had a think, and now more than ever I believe as I always have. It's all about the free will. It's like the national parks policy with the caribou herds....no interference. let nature take it's course and the consequence are the consequences.
But that's just me. Not saying anyone has to think that way, it's just my personal opinion. needed to vent some frustrations.
On a different note....Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Back to studying. :-)
