What can I say about XMen: First Class that hasn't already been said? Well maybe that I
Holy god I can't remember the last time I had that many geek-gasms in a single film. Seriously I just can't say enough good things about it. The fact that our entire row actually spontaneously cheered aloud at one of the most fantastic cameos in movie history (I won't say it here for fear of spoiling it even behind the cut, but comments are probably going to contain it so be warned), should tell you something.
What was not to love about this film? Getting to see Raven Darkholme as something more than just a femme fatale was absolutely wonderful. Baby Beast, OMG, the sheer unrelenting cute of him! Banshee with the arm wing thingies! Kurt's future dad being a mighty bad-ass. Kevin-freaking-Bacon as Sebastian Shaw and the Hellfire Club! Charles Xavier as a party boy referring to mutations as "groovy". Moira being both clever and cool and the hope that she and Charles will hook up so I can at least hope that somewhere down the line my beloved Legin gets born! Erik/Magneto as the friend we've always had hints about but never gotten to see and OMG when he realizes he's responsible for the bullet that paralyzes Charles... All I kept thinking at that moment was, "Kiss him, oh just kiss him!" I took pleasure in the thought that somewhere Ian McKellen had had the very same thought when he saw that scene.
And the whole 60's style was just OMG so perfect. I desperately want someone to put together those costumes for a con and come out the Austin Powers theme with Xavier spouting, "We're mutants, baby, yeah!" It needs to be done.
I just don't know if I have any more words to express how unbelievably awesome this movie was. Seriously, if they wanted to make me forget about X3 and start looking forward to XMen films again they certainly succeeded. Now I'm off to see if I can pre-pre-order this flick on Amazon and if anybody's already posted some Charles/Erik fic because...yum!
If you haven't seen the movie yet go. Seriously, go right now. Just stop whatever you're doing and go see this movie. Trust me.
