interestingly, the "rain in spain" doesn't actually fall in the plain all that much.
i got the promotion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
j came back on monday and i expected he would be setting up a meeting with me, but then he didn't and i was sick to my stomach all day. meanwhile, e was acting like a total bitch and contradicting every single email i sent out. finally, tuesday morning, j called me into this office and was like, "congratulations!" so yeah, i was in shock. it turns out that e was my only competition lol. according to j, i blew her out of the water. the committee was impressed with my professionalism, vision for the future, hard work, etc. so much so that they gave me a nearly 20% raise. par-tay.
obviously, i told my parents and vicinity right away. mom was so excited that she bought me roses and a balloon. dad was so proud of me. i'm the first person in my family to be promoted to manager in their career-type jobs (like my parents were managers when they were in college at burger king and i was a manager at a video store, but none of us had career aspirations there).
anyway, j was in training wednesday and thursday, so he said he would announce on friday. it was super-weird to be the manager (and to be getting paid as a manager) but really having no authority because no one knew i was the manager. anyway, no one is in the office on fridays anymore, so j has now pushed it back to monday.
i'm so fucking nervous and excited all at once about this. i know i have some great ideas, but i'm pretty sure there'll be resistance to them. especially from this one woman, c, who has been with the company for 20 years and hates to deviate even the slightly from the routine she's had since like 1988. ridiculous.
last night, i took mom and dad to the limestone as that's where we've gone to celebrate since i got this job. fruit & cheese plate = ecstasy. dad wanted to take me to see journey to the center of the earth in 3-d too, but i just passed out on the couch out of exhaustion when we got home and he didn't have the heart to wake me. we are going tonight though. i heard it's a pretty crappy movie plot-wise but it's a popcorn flick, so i wasn't expecting much anyway.
new season of burn notice started thursday! it's not as snappy as last season, but then again, it was kind of a dramatic, emotional storyline they were wrapping up. on the other hand, jeffery donovan and bruce campbell could just wander around the loft eating yogurt for an entire episode and i would still squee like mad. speaking of which, is there any good michael/sam slash out there?
i have had an idea for ari/e slash stuck in my head for weeks but haven't had the time to write it down. sigh. maybe tonight.
