Parts of this week were really fantastic. J and R were in town, so I met up with them for dinner on Monday. J's sister lives on the far west side, so I had them take the Blue Line to UIC-Halsted. I had planned to take the L to meet them there as well, but they left early and I was running late, so I ended up taking a cab there instead. We ended up arriving in the station at the same time. UIC-Halsted is the stop I used to get off at every day when I was going through undergrad, so I know my way around there pretty well. The Halsted end of the stop is Greektown, so I took them to Parthenon, which they really enjoyed. After catching up there, we headed to my favorite Greek bakery of all time--Pan Hellenic Pastry Shop. The owner, Louis, was there and he fed us coffee and cookies while we chatted the night away. When he finally kicked us out, we took pictures of the Sears Tower all lit up in the Bears colors. With my new digital camera, I was able to zoom in so close to it, it was like I was standing on top of it. J and R haven't changed much in the past ten months. They say that I've changed a lot though, but in a good way.
On Tuesday, my manager came back into town again, so I ended up working late. The good news is that I was put in charge of a whole data stream, which is a big deal. I'm kind of nervous because now I have to attend weekly meetings with other teams and deal with clients, but I think I can handle it. The bad news is that as I was entering the lobby for our floor, my ankle went out and I wrenched my knee before falling into the lobby doors. I was more concerned about anyone seeing me embarrassing myself. As it turns out, I should've been more concerned about my knee.
Wednesday morning, I could barely get out of bed. My knee hurt like hell. I could barely walk much less commute to work, but I made it there somehow. I don't remember much of it though other than searing pain on the outside of my right knee. That's the one that I injured in high school while playing soccer. I never had it looked at back then, and it's bothered me on and off since then, but since I could barely walk now, I figured that it was time to see a doctor. So, I called and made an appointment and then left work early to go see him. It turns out that I have a contusion on my patella. I probably have more internal damage, but since my knee wasn't swollen or locked-up, he couldn't tell me what it was and they don't do CAT scans or MRIs at the office. So, he gave me a referral to see a physical therapist. If that doesn't do it, he's going to give me a referral for a scan. Depending on what that shows, I might need surgery. Yay.
Yesterday, I worked eleven hours. It was my four month anniversary with the company. Because I've done such a great job, I was put in charge of a second data stream. This means more meetings and more dealing with clients. I also found out from one of the VPs that a few of my programs from a different data stream have been turned into tools that are used by the whole company now. Wow.
Today, I got home at a decent hour, for once. I don't know how I managed that considering that my manager dropped an entire new data feed in my lap at like 2:30pm. But I was able to figure it out and process the whole thing by 4:30pm. Go me.
In other news, my parents hired a new plumber and he came on Tuesday. Guess what he said the problem with the plumbing was? That's right. The supply valve. Wow, I totally could've saved them $750 there, eh?
