i just finished watching Ice Castles and, to steal a quote, let me just say, it is also my favorite blind figure skater movie EVER!!! i was so overwhelmed by the drama, i had to call a friend twice in the middle of it and get hysterical. so, now, in my hysteria, i will give you my highlights.

first, the instant drama that comes out of the script from nowhere is *phenomenal*! A quiet father/daughter scene gets super intense when the daughter cries out, "I'm not mom, Dad!"

Lexie leaves tiny Waverly, Iowa to become the next olympic hopeful. She gets a make-over (but, it does not happen on-screen as a fun montage, damn.) and looks just like her new trainer, who at one point, drives Lexie out to the middle of nowhere to yell at her for doing a "dumb stunt" on the ice (a triple axle, or something) and forces sobbing Lexie to choose: "Do you want to win or should I take you to the airport now?!"

Lexie has an unfortunate accident which leaves the poor girl blind and cross-eyed. it also makes her hair look really bad! and she leaves the ice to act sullen and destroyed back in Waverly.

The small-town trainer (lezzer, in my book!) gets pretty revved up when Lexie (post-trauma) is brooding with her dead mother's belongings and screams at her "Oh, Lexie, she was so promising and now she just sits in the attic all day wearing her dead mother's clothes!"

Lexie has dream hair, it just flows flaxen all day long. her nose is also the perfect nose; a plastic surgeon in shangri-la could not have sculpted a finer nose!

this film is a must. for everyone. i want to have a party where we watch Ice Castles, The Cutting Edge and Ice Princess . it's a winter time movie marathon that can't be beat!
