I'm forcing myself to write again but it's not as much fun as it once was because for once real life is better than fiction. I'm not even deriving pleasure from reading fiction either because I don't want to escape.
Recorded another audiobook for the blind on Wednesday, which was nice and I apparently did it in one take...hmm, if I'd known he was going to be so undiscerning, I'd have self-edited more as I went! But it was talking about a trip to Japan eerily similar to my own last year- like the character went to Tokyo and took the bullet train, while on a gap year, with a best friend. AUDIOBOOK COMPANY CLEARLY STALKING ME. But hey, c'est vrai.
Then my half-brother came for a flying visit with his wife and kid from Japan (another eerie coincidence)- I have 3 half brothers, all of whom became what they wanted to be as kids. Eldest works for the European Space Programme, middle is an artist and the youngest is a pilot for BA.
Then Alex came and, of course, the world imrpoved immeasurably. Sat about on the sofa eating and drinking (I'm the messiest doughnut eater in the world) and of course talking about theatre. Was so scared he'd hate Duet for One, a show with Juliet Stevenson and Henry Goodman I loved. Usually he hates the stuff I love and vice versa but this time we were in agreement; very happy. And next few days I also spent with him, while he sorted his submissions for the Oxford Theatre Guild- plays he wants to direct in the Spring. He wants Sue Baxter (the Crucible director) to get Hamlet so he can play it but because the Guild aren't his biggest fans, he knows that neither he nor Sue will get accepted. Because the Guild are fucking idiots and think getting on is more important than having an awesome finish product.
Birthday dinner with Alex's granddad was OK- apparently he loved me, so that's reassuring, lol! I took him lots of brownies and the dinner itself was great. Must be rough though for the guy since he's v deaf, so general convo at the table is just white noise to him. But he and his housekeeper were lovely and Alex and his mum were all smiley too.
Man quotes from this week:
He gave me a book called "Will and Me" about Shakespeare as a belated congrats on RADA and wrote in the front: "for my brilliant girl, as she heads off to become the best frog RADA's ever seen. Love you Bumble x" (I told him once that at my fourth round audition we had to pretend to be frogs, at which he groaned and once more reconsidered whether he should be going to drama school next year)
From his Mum. "Alex came in the other day and said 'I've revised my idea of happiness: it's Bumble and a bag of doughnuts."
Now don't get him for a whole flaming week cause he's finally getting a holiday down in Cornwall but I've already formulated a plan since my Dad is away from next Saturday for 5 days!! WHOOSH, I'm getting my man here immediately to do terrible things to him. And bake him brownies. Also, this week I'll probs be getting the verdict on my driving license....*worry* So I shan't think about that but will type my my story and plan my plan for getting Alex round next week.
