As long as your wife and friend stay in the front of the Rio (very easy to do) they won't find it to be anymore slammed than a strip casino. The WSOP is held in the back and even the taxis and valet go to a completely different entrance than the main casino entrance. It is quite reasonable to stay there aside from price (inflated during the WSOP).

I hate to be fatalistic here, but during the WSOP, you are more or less going to be screwed for discounted suites. Even the (very rare during the WSOP) poker rates are really unlikely, because the chances are, you aren't going to be playing $1,000/$2,000 when you aren't in the main event, and considering poker rates are usually booked a few months in advance during normal months, I'd imagine poker-rate rooms during the WSOP at either of the properties you named were booked at least during last years WSOP.

What price range were you looking to spend? You might want to checkout Treasure Island. It's MGM-run and nice, but comps go a lot further there than it does at a super high demand hotel like Bellagio. Planet Hollywood might have some reasonable deals too. They are pretty much smack in the middle of the strip, but not as inflated as some of the other Vegas places.
