yesturday while at the royal free hospital i discovered it is
tinnitus awareness week.
i was pleasantly surprised, and appreciative of their audiology department for making a small public awareness event in a corridor/walkway.
i'm very aware of tinnitus... especially if there's no other sound for my ears/brain to focus on! but i'd not been aware there was an awareness week. had forgotten about the
british tinnitus association. and was pleased to be made aware that i manage/live with the tinnitus i expereince very well - the audiologist asked if i had tinnitus and if i'd got used to it, and my answer was a very straight-forward/didn't-need-to-think-about-it-much 'yes'.
i was interested in some information i was given about some of the latest research into tinnitus, which reports that the focus is now via neuroscience because they all seem to concur that tinnitus is a brain thing (as i was led to believe about my own experience of it) as much as/more than an ear thing (tho the cause can be ear/hearing damage related for some).
