Oops, I never wrote about my sister's
concert. It went really, really well. Beautiful performances of some staggeringly difficult 20th and 21st century music. Especially Webern. Wow. Her boyfriend did a jazzy arrangement of some Pärt, which worked surprisingly well. Very impressive.
Right, the weekend.
30girl's birthday drinks, fun to hang out and to meet her sister in law's boyfriend. Yay.
Friday Night Waltz, this time with contra. Tim and I've decided we really like contra. We're going to start attending (apparently regular!) dances at the church near our apartment. If you haven't tried, it's kind of a cross between square dancing and Irish ceili or English country dance. I like that you get to dance with many different people but keep coming back to your partner. Suits our style.
Eye exam, just to make sure my eyes are still good before starting school. They are. Apparently I have a large optic nerve, which made them worry a bit that I might have glaucoma. I don't. But my file now contains a very pink photo of the inside of my eye, just in case some other doctor worries about the same thing in future.
And now I have 3 weeks left at work!!!
Final note: Slate's doing weddings this week. Very amusing article about
engagement rings.
