Ridiculous numbers of friends seem to have decided to have babies at age 28 (which they act on if married/partnered and lament otherwise). It makes practical sense in some cases, but there's something I'm missing. Why 28? Is it just get-it-in-before-30? People seem to have the idea that 28 is the perfect age. ??? I thought the magic cutoff biologically was 35 for women.
Maybe I should start working on a baby icon :P.
Other news, since it's been a while...
Did well again last quarter: straight A minuses. I don't understand why, which is frightening. As long as I can survive this quarter, though, I'm pretty much golden. Aside from orals... but I have the summer to worry about that.
Tim wants to have his book complete and ready to send to agents by the end of the week. He really is that close, from what I've seen. So exciting! He's using an unopened bottle of Lagavulin as motivation. My mom is visiting next weekend, and (unlike me) she loves scotch, so he'll have a partner in celebration if he does get it done in time.
Grandma also visiting. We're taking her to Disneyland. Should be hilarious. Confirm all her worst suspicions about Americans.
That's about it. This quarter seems hard (as they all are) but doable. I'm working on figuring out advisor/topic for my first paper, which is due in the fall. It's a bizarre process. How do people find it so easy to pick some professor, nearly at random, and ask to work intensively with them for the next 5 years? How do they decide who will be best? How do they ask a stranger for such a favor?
