Star Wars = Disney?

Wow, so George Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney... I watched a short video on YouTube, where he explains that there are some good opportunities there, which I suppose is true. I suspect it will just lead to a lot of Transformers-level movies with delusions of grandeur. I've never encountered any non-George Lucas Star Wars stuff that captures that Star Wars feel -- though the current Clone Wars cartoon often comes close -- so I have little faith that it will start happening now.

When Disney bought Marvel, there was a lot of talk. Marvel was circling the drain, publishing mainly glorified fan fiction with little professionalism left. The main thought I had was that Disney would whip them into shape and turn them back into a professional company. Sadly, Disney seems to have mostly left them alone, and now they are... circling the drain while publishing mainly glorified fan fiction. This doesn't give me much faith in them handling Star Wars well. (Of course, Star Wars is a healthy brand, so hands-off would work much better than with Marvel.)

On the other hand, I suspect we'll see older versions of the movies released on DVD/Blue Ray. It wouldn't mind having all the versions, just for comparative purposes. I'm sure many fanboys will be super happy that George Lucas is no longer in charge of Star Wars, but for me, it means we're entering the Roger Moore era...

Oh, and the other thing: I guess we can be guarunteed that Star Wars will be a copyright that Disney sits on until the end of time now...
