For me, there is no other feeling quite like the one of walking onto the University of Maryland campus on a crisp and clear autumn day. It feels very collegiate. Professional, but in a student-type way. It's the kind of day that makes you want to start on the projects you've been putting off or the homework that's not due until next week. Today was one of those days, but that's neither here nor there.
I like walking on to campus these days. It feels like adventure. Similar to California, but not quite the same. Then, I didn't know where I was going. It was about the journey and trying new things, like discovering who I was as a person. I don't think that search ever has a finite answer, but I think I found out as much as anyone can, at any given point in her life. Success! On to the next thing!
I remember being adamant in high school that teaching is the last profession I would ever get in to, but that just goes to show how much we haven't experienced about life and ourselves as teenagers. I know I'm not so far out of that category, but the fact remains that the last five years have been nothing like I planned. I hope the next five years go a little as planned, but just as filled with unexpected nuggets of discovery.
You can call me Ms. Devlin. I'm going to be a teacher by August of 2011.
