red coats of winter . . .

The weather warmed up quite a bit today and I had a few minutes this afternoon so I walked out back to enjoy some fresh air. I ended up at the atrium secret garden and when I opened the door, I got a nice surprise. Many succulents have put on their "red coats" for winter, and one of the most colorful is this air plant. It is a nice seafoam green all year long, but when the weather gets cooler, it explodes into bright pinkish reds (like a combo of fuchsia and magenta) and little purple flowers with a golden center. I stood in front of it to take this picture and caught myself in the mirror that is behind it.
