The calm before the storm . . .

We are getting ready for TS Elsa. They don’t think it will develop into a hurricane, but winds could be close to hurricane strength for a cat 1. As it goes over Cuba it will be slowed down a bit, but once back over the water, the winds will pick up. Looks like all of Florida is under some kind of advisory. Right now they are predicting 50-60 mph winds and gusts and anywhere between 2-8” of rain. But as we have learned over the years, things change quickly and can turn on a dime.

The gallery is closed tomorrow and probably Wednesday, too. The island will most likely get it worse than us who are farther inland.
It should reach us sometimes later tomorrow afternoon. In the morning I’m going to tie up my mirror curtains and pick up some things in the yard. The old guys are still having their Fire Department lunch tomorrow. They just started back to having it last month and had a huge turnout. Pete is usually home by 1-1:30 from that. He’s going to stop at the store and pick up a few things we need on the way home.

We went over to the coffee shop yesterday and I was surprised at how much I had sold since I was there last year. They had a rough year in 2020 and had to close for a few months, but they hung in there and I was so happy to see a full house when I walked in.

I took this picture last week when my sister was here of the Manatee River at DeSoto Memorial, one of my favorite haunts and less than a mile from our house. Our house is almost 18' above sea level and we are usually pretty safe from storm surge. Out on the island, they are only 2' above sea level in most places.
