Most of the day today was taken up with book club. Our latest book I loved!.... "The Boys in the Boat"
the story of nine Americans from the University of Washington and their epic quest for gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It had so much meaning page after page, and lots of history from about the time my parents were starting out their married life together! Anyway, we six had a great discussion about it and the time flew by. We met at noon at Shirley's house this time and had delicious pizza and salad, plus Chai Tea, then something called Luigi's Italian Ice that I really liked. I'm going to be eating it from now on instead of ice cream. They sell it at Publix in six packs of individual servings. I need that control that someone else makes or I just eat way too much of something.
This is the first time I've been to Shirley's home. She lives alone since her husband passed away two years ago. Her home is filled with art everywhere you look and there are two bodies of water in front of her house with lots of birds in them today and an eagle's nest visible from the front door. She said to come back anytime I wanted. She's only a few miles from me, so I think I'll take her up on that. Shirley has been a member of the gallery for years, but I never got to know her at all until two years ago when we were kind of thrown together and had a chance to talk. We realized we had lots in common, the biggest thing being we are both introverts.
Tomorrow night is a reception at the Gallery for the March featured artist. I have to be there by 5:00 and take pictures of the event throughout the evening.
On Saturday is a birthday party cookout for one of our good friends (Jim) who is turning 60. Gail asked if I'd make baked beans. She has invited about 50-60 people. Pete is going over early to help them set up tables and chairs, etc.
Then on Sunday Priscilla and I are going to Circle B Bar Reserve in the Lakeland area. It is supposed to be a fabulous place to see and photograph all sorts of wildlife, including lots of alligators. There is a lot of walking involved, but if you make a reservation, they offer a tram ride that takes you around. We reserved our seat on March 1st, so we're all set!
Here's my picture offering for this post. I call it "Barnacles on the Down Low" taken at DeSoto Memorial on a little beach area along the Manatee River. I held my camera close to the ground for the shots.
Click on this one and you'll get a great close up view of them.
