The anniversary date (and birthday) of my good friend Betty’s passing was recently. Priscilla received a small portion of her ashes and was planning to eventually spread them on the tennis court (where Betty loved to play in her younger years), until she found out the tennis court is now a basketball court. Betty loved Coquina Beach and Priscilla knew her favorite spot there and asked me to go with her.
We went on a recent Saturday morning-it was early and so peaceful there. Priscilla brought an orange ruffle hibiscus, Betty’s favorite flower, and placed it in the water. We both said a few words as the ashes and the flower drifted out in the waves. I took a few pictures at Priscilla’s request to send to family.
We walked to the end, where water meets sand to place the ashes and hibiscus . . .
As we walked, a young lone gull flew in and walked with us . . .
We passed by where someone had written in the sand . . . .
