spring overload . . .

There’s a little corner of my yard where there is an old wooden platform that gets a nice morning sun ~~ it’s a place I call the “plant hospital.” I equate it sometimes to an old sad nursing home of sorts, where plants go that are not doing well, a place to die or to rejuvenate and recover if that is their fate, and if I have an abundance of something, it usually ends up there. I know I don’t visit it often enough, but when I do, there are always new things and surprises to see.

Well, I got one of the nicest surprises the other day when I went there. In among all the debris and clutter, hidden deep under some other pots I could see a little flower. I cleared the way and pulled it out and was so happy to see what it was.

At first, I didn’t even know it was an orchid - it is one I am not familiar with and I don’t remember where or when I got it, how long it had been there, if I bought it or if someone gave it to me.

Anyway, it had one little flower. I brought it out into the light and within a day or two more buds opened and now I have this beautiful flowering orchid. I did look in my books and it might be some hybrid of a Dendrobium, but I wouldn’t swear to that.

Very nice today, much warmer--close to 70 here and not a cloud in the sky. Pete and I went out and had brunch this morning. I think I'll have a little bike ride then put my plants back up in the oak tree. Unforeseen things have happened, and we are not going to go on our little trip to St. Augustine this week. Next planned date will be the first week in March.
