early morning back yard . . .

The fire pit area is finished now. The whole project went so quickly because Pete was in charge, I think. If it was me, I’d probably still be planning it all in my head.

The legs of the benches kept sinking into the gravel when you sat on them, so we had a cement pad poured around the pit earlier this week. Before the concrete set up, I went out with some blue iridized glass globs and pushed them into the four corners in a random pattern . . . , nothing too much or too busy, just to make my mark.

One of the sprinklers went over this area before, so Pete spent most of yesterday digging up and moving the one head. It was nice at the end of the day to put everything in place. I’m sure we will use it a lot this fall and winter, and even now, too. We have a good supply of firewood, that’s for sure!

I couldn’t believe my eyes this morning when I saw my last blooming orchid (I showed earlier here) has four more flower spikes starting on another stem! In this picture I removed all the other orchids that were around it so what you see is all coming from one pot!

I put a little red dot at the end of each new spike so you could spot them easily.

And here’s my little secret garden resident. He’ll sleep there all day and then go out at night.
Every few days he finds a new spot to settle. I hadn’t been able to find him for a few weeks now, but I figured eventually he’d return to the bromeliad.
