3 cardinals
I have been absent from LJ for about a week now. I did try to get on and post several times, but there was always something wrong and it was too exasperating, so I’ve just kind of stayed away. I’ll have a lot of catching up to do, unless everyone else stayed away by choice or just because LJ was having troubles.
Anyway, here’s the news in a nutshell since I posted last.
Pete got hurt on his new job and is now seeing doctors under the workman’s comp. What they are finding out, is that possibly he did something to aggravate an old injury. He’s wearing a back brace, taking all kinds of meds and still going to work each day, but taking it slow. We thought he might have lost his job, but they are very accommodating there and working to make things easier on him.
A week ago last Friday I was at the pond and Nick, the head of the place and whom I’ve known for several years, came up to me and asked me if I’d like to display some of my photos in a photo show they are having at the park August 12. I was thrilled that he asked me and also a little scared since I’ve never been involved in anything like this before. I think since he always sees me with a camera he thought I had been. He said the photos need to be large and matted (which by luck I had just learned how to do the week before at the Camera Club.) So, I’ve been searching my files for some of my older pictures and been taking some new ones, too. He said he’d like 20-30 for display. I wish my sister was here to help me and for moral support.
I had always just shown my photos on LJ (you all saw the best I had) and after I posted them, I would usually delete the large size files and so I don’t have very many old photos I can use to enlarge. Bah! I could just kick myself! But I was able to find a few I hadn’t deleted and also been taking some new ones.
I don’t want to spend a lot of money on this project. I’ve found a small art supply place where I can get standard stock mats and I’m getting my photos enlarged to 11 x 14 at Sam’s Club for just under $3.00 each.
So, I’ll probably have about $300 involved, but then if I ever do this again, I’ll have most everything I’ll need.
So, all the time I haven’t been spending on LJ, I’ve been spending on getting ready for the Photo Show. I wish you all lived close enough and could come! But, I’ll try and take photos of the show to post.
And, almost forgot, I had some kind of stupid flu again this last week, too, and that slowed me down quite a bit, but yesterday, I finally felt pretty good again. I haven’t ridden my bike all week, but have gone on a few short walks.
Grandson Josh is in the process of enlisting in the Marines, and he will be leaving soon for boot camp. His brother, Zack, wants to do the same when he graduates from high school next year. Maria will be 15 in a few weeks . . . unbelievable to me! I love my kids and grandkids SO MUCH!
It has been very hot and humid here lately (but I notice there are other places much hotter than we are). At least we are acclimated to the heat here, but I feel poor for the ones who are not used to it and don’t have air conditioning, etc.
One of my friends (Irene-for those who remember~~”the girl with the voice like a song” is what I called her~~ is coming back to Florida! She moved to NC a few years ago, didn’t like it one bit and has been trying to sell her house there so she could move back to Florida. And, she finally did and should be back in Florida by the end of August! Yay! I’ll be so happy to have her back here again! She’ll be living only a few blocks from Priscilla.
I just took these pictures this morning! At first I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! Three little baby fledgling cardinals flew in one at a time by some shrubs about 30 feet ahead of me.

First big brother flew down and checked everything out . . . then sister #1 joined him and a few minutes later sister #2 flew in. They were so cute to watch. After about 15 minutes, they all looked to the right and the male flew into the bushes first, followed by one female, then soon the other.
p.s. It took me a lot of time and lots of trying and re-trying to make this post. So, I guess things are not back to normal yet. I hope all the pictures come through for you to see. Some are not showing up for me.
