Well, Pete has been at his new job for two weeks now and he loves it. He’s like a changed person and comes home in a much happier mood. Those last two weeks he worked at Publix after giving his notice were a “killer!” Horrible hours and backbreaking . . . a thankless job to be sure. He said he now has a new respect for those working in the grocery stores. They wanted him to stay and said he could just work one day a month to keep his “foot in the door” there, but I don’t think he’s going to do it and I don’t blame him a bit.
We are having a busy weekend here.
Tonight we are going out with our “birthday group” and celebrating four birthdays, and they are all in the same family, . . . three siblings and a niece. We kind of stopped exchanging gifts a few years ago (thank goodness!), and if we want to, we can give a card. I’m glad we don’t give gifts anymore as that got to be too stressful and expensive. There are about 10-12 of us in the group. I always make my own cards by printing up one of my photographs I think would be meaningful to them. And few of us always go together and either bake or buy a cake for the birthday person and eat it in the restaurant after the meal. The birthday person gets to pick their place to eat . . . and this time we are going to Bonefish Grill. I really like Bonefish and usually get the shrimp.
Tomorrow we are having the kids and family over for a cookout. It will be a small group though, as Josh is working and Zack is away with a friend, and Laurie’s husband, Geoff is working out of state. There will be only seven of us (Maria is bringing a friend). I’m hoping to get a few action shots of them swimming.
I just made a big batch of my homemade salsa. It is so good (all fresh ingredients) I could dish out a big bowl and eat it with a spoon. Onion, green pepper, jalapenos, minced garlic, lime juice, and of course all those tomatoes. And that cilantro . . . I could just sit and smell that stuff all day!
I’m also making macaroni salad, baked beans and fruit salad or sliced up watermelon, (corn on the cob it I can find it real fresh), Tracy is bringing deviled eggs and Laurie is bringing a dessert. Then we’ll cook something on the grill, too.
Monday Pete has off work and then I’m spending some “grandma time” with Maria next week. I don’t know what we’ll do yet, but I’m sure we’ll have fun whatever it is.
Pete took my car today and got a new battery in it. It was making some strange sounds like it was hesitating before it would start. The last time we got a battery for it, we got a 7-year battery, and it's only been four years ago.
The new battery was $124.99 (another 7-year one) and then they pro-rated it and discounted us $57.39, then Pete had a $20 off coupon, so with taxes, we ended up paying $53.30! Not too bad for my peace of mind.
It has rained here every day for almost a week now. Just short little rains a couple of times a day sometimes, and I think today is supposed to be the end of it for a while. We have needed it so badly.
White Peacock after the rain . . . .
I haven't ridden my bike as much as I would like to because of the daily rains, but I have gotten out on my walks almost every day and just stay close to the car.
Well, that’s all for now. I need to go make my four cards now and then I’m going to relax a bit before getting ready for tonight.
Happy 4th everyone!
