It was a good day!

I spent the better part of today making repairs. Repairs (especially on other people’s work) are one of my least favorite things to do in the glass studio. I dislike it so much I usually put all repairs aside as I get them, they pile up, and then when I can put them off no longer, I do them all in one fell swoop. So today was the day and I ( Read more... )

12 years is worth celebrating! Did you attach the butterfly to the mirror? How?

No, I just set the butterfly on the mirror. But if I was going to glue it down, there are clear glues that are made for smooth surfaces like this. Just a tiny dot of glue wherever it touches the mirror. There are little feet at the front of the butterfly (that you can't see in this picture) and I'd put a drop of glue on each foot and under back wings. I cut my own mirrors and offer one with each butterfly. Some don't want the mirrors so I don't glue them.

What a great friend you are! Both gifts are lovely but I especially love the pink butterfly, as I love butterflies!

Thank you. I love butterflies, too.

The butterflies were kind of my signature creation when I first started doing stained glass and I've made them ever since. I keep records of all my sales, and a few years ago for fun I thought I'd count and see how many butterflies I'd made. Would you believe I stopped counting at 500!

Thank you!

The butterflies were kind of my signature creation when I first started doing stained glass 20 years ago and I've made them ever since. All different shapes, sizes and colors. I keep records of all my sales, and a few years ago for fun I thought I'd count and see how many butterflies I'd made so far. Would you believe I stopped counting at 500!

That's a lot of butterflies!

Also, I forgot to say, doing repairs must be a chore.

Oh, don't get me started . . .

You wouldn't believe some of the things people have brought me to repair. Dirty and corroded, twisted, and some with a dozen or more pieces cracked, like someone had stepped or sat on it. When you remove a broken piece of glass you have to break it up even more to get it out and also melt away and remove all the solder without disturbing any of the glass surrounding it. There's always a chance that you might crack another piece of glass and have to repair that, too. Heat cracks are common.

But, it's part of the job and must be done. I have to say also, since each repair is different and can have its own set of problems, that once I get started it becomes like a puzzle or challenge to me . . . and I like a challenge. So, I may grumble and complain, but in the end when it's all finished and whole again, I really feel like I've accomplished something and can't wait to show the owner.

I really like your rose card idea and the butterfly gift too is perfect to make note of her recovery. I'm sure she will love it!

Thanks. I wish I'd thought of the numbered cards before.
