THIS IS WHERE I WANT TO GO!
There is a bird sanctuary/preserve island off shore in the little fishing community -- the Historic Village of Cortez. I want to go to this island! At least get closer to it, because you are not allowed to step foot on it. It is home to thousands of birds. You can go there by boat, but no getting out and going on the island.
Priscilla and I went out there last night at low tide, hoping we could get a little closer to the birds, but all we were able to do was stand on the pier, drool and take a few long distance pictures.
This is a photo of just one end of the island that was closest to us. It was about 5:30 and the birds were just beginning to come home for the night.
I could see two spots of red and I think they were two Magnificent Frigatebirds in the trees http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Magnificent_Frigatebird/id,
and just about every other kind of water bird you can imagine in Florida.
