Oh, I’m a lucky girl. A lucky, lucky girl.
I was so glad to get out of the way of the kitchen demo yesterday for a little while!
OMGosh! What a mess our house is!
I decided to go on the Pathway of Yellow Trees (earlier post).
(By now, two months later, all the yellow leaves have fallen)
Everything was so quiet,
Not another soul anywhere around.
Suddenly I heard the soft knocking --
Tap-tap--tapping of a woodpecker.
The trees were thick overhead.
I stopped and just stared,
letting my eyes slowly comb over everything --
looking for some movement.
Suddenly . . .
There he (or she) was ---
I think it was a male --
in a tree just overhead
about 30 feet up!
A Pileated Woodpecker!
Oh, what a beauty!
Lifting my camera
high over my head
I took pictures.
I took videos.
My heart was pounding!
I was so excited!
I started thinking to myself,
“Oh, you’re so lucky!”
Totally oblivious to me, Woody was still up there pecking away to beat the band when I finally was able to tear myself away--- after about 30 minutes.
My arms and neck ached from looking up
and holding the camera over my head,
but as I walked away,
I felt like skipping.
My feet hardly seemed to touch the ground.
I was swinging my arms,
and whispering,
then singing out loud,
I’m a lucky, lucky girl,
how did I ever get so lucky!
Here's one picture, but check out the videos. Turn up the volume and you will be able to hear him. They are each only about 30 seconds long and the best three of all I took.

In this next video, I had moved around the tree a little bit to get another view:
