It is raining today, but it didn't rain too much on us while camping. Only a little, and mostly while we were sleeping on Saturday night so that was all good. I have decided that camping is okay. I don't know that I would ever say 'hey, let's go camping!' but if other people really wanted to go I might be convinced. Of course, this is camping with a toilet and shower which some people might not think of as camping at all. But swimming in the ocean doesn't cut it for me; I hate sleeping covered in dried salt. ;p
Lynette and I shared a tent, Amanda and her brother Pete shared a tent, and Simon slept in 'The Beast' which is the former ambulance that he owns. They are all seasoned campers, so they had gas cookers and the like. We camped at Treachery Bay, which is in Seal Rocks... and now I have set the scene...
It was really hot on Saturday, but by the time we'd stocked up on supplies and found a place to camp, it was a little late for swimming. I spent a full hour blowing up my air mattress (as Bree had predicted I would) but that was kind of soothing in a way. We had a barbie, and then watched some episodes of a preaching DVD Pete had of John Piper. John Piper is awesome! I highly recommend him. He challenges Christians to a life of joy in God as that is what glorifies him the most. It is pretty intense stuff, and I think that he is very right. Which means that I really must read the book of his that I have lying around. ;p
On Sunday we went to find a church in Foster, and ended up at a CLC church half an hour late. So we missed singing... and there had been a violin! But that was all good, and then we went off to a Sunday market that was awesome. Cheap good stuff! I bought a pumpkin peeler and a wooden chopping board. Then we went for more supplies before returning (exhausted) to camp. Others went for a swim. I collected firewood and read the newspaper. Mmmm.... weekend edition of The Sydney Morning Herald. I think I have decided to subscribe to it when I start work. That night Amanda cooked us a lovely stir-fry. We watched more DVD and cooked damper and marshmellows on the fire, and went to bed very very late!
Monday morning Lynette and I got up 4 fours before everyone else because we are unable to sleep in, and so were very bored of sitting around when everyone else got up to sit around. We finally left after 1pm, to go visit a lighthouse. I was really grumpy and hungry, but then I was fed a sandwich and my mood vastly improved. ;p The girls and I went swimming and bought a frypan while the boys went spear-fishing. But Pete got totally caned by a massive blue bottle. Some nice people gave him medication, and we went back to camp to watch some more John Piper and cook pasta. I had a massive shower since everytime I touched myself my fingers came back black and that was gross. Then more John and more fire action!
On Tuesday Lynette and I went for a walk while we waited for everyone else to get up. Then I packed up my things and left for Port Macquarie. It took a couple of hours because I unwisely took the scenic route. Had a sandwich with mum, did some grocery shopping, had dinner and hung with my folks. I made some long overdue phonecalls, and found out that Becky has a spare room in her house. It is too small for me to stay long-term, but now I will stay there during the week while I look for somewhere else as it is only a couple of train stops away from Chatswood. Boy, God sure has timing.
Which was supremely illustrated yesterday, when Steph had a whole bunch of people over for breakfast. We had to kick them out to make way for the cleaners, but one guy had only met her this morning and it turned out that he'd been to the Anglican church in Chatswood a lot and gave me the number of a girl who goes there. So less than 12 hours after I'd decided to start my church search in Chatswood, I had contacts. And there's a Mandarin language service at this church too, which would be awesome.
Anyway, then my mum and I drove up to Laurieton so I could take her and my dad out for lunch to thank them for putting me through university for 4 years. Thanks guys, you rock! Then I went to talk to the bank about me getting a credit card (they said come back when I am actually working :p ), came home for dinner, and then went out with my sister and mum to an Undercover Wear party. Didn't buy anything. Humilating enough, I couldn't even fill out an 'A' cup bra. :P Came home and crashed... so tired!
This morning I was supposed to go weightboarding with my sister and friends, but the weather called it off. So mum and I went and got me fitted for some new bras as an early birthday thing and got sushi for lunch. Then I watched tennis with my dad, and saw an Aussie dude win his match.
Yes, so it is an exact week before my birthday but we have decided to celebrate it today by going out for dinner and coming home for birthday cake. My grandfather's sugery next week which was supposed to happen on my birthday has been cancelled since they FINALLY worked out it was a public holiday. So all my birthday plans are messed up. But I heard they do some cool stuff at the beach in Wollongong for Australia Day so maybe I can hook up with some people there. I would love to get some Pizza World pizza for dinner but I don't have a DVD player or anything so I can't really invite people around to do that. And Nova rang me today and asked me to come and work the 27th which is the day after my birthday so I will need to leave Wollongong at 4am to get to work at 6am so I can't really party too hard the night before anyway.
But this time Merrick and Rosso should be in the studio and not on holidays so hopefully I will get to see them!
Yup. That's me done.
holiday,
birthday,
