This year I have backed off on SCA commitments. I sent off my email to Lisette last week, so I am down to a couple of at-large warrants that don't require any work. First time in 14 years that I haven't had at least one office. I feel myself getting less and less interested in the SCA, so it is definitely time for a break. When Eldred steps down as chancellor in February, maybe we can both focus on something else for a while. Like steampunk! :-)
I still have plenty to occupy my non-working time. I have agreed to serve as UUFC treasurer through the 2011 calendar year. We are experimenting with a different governance structure next year. We have been easing our way into it this year and will split into a Board and a Council of Committees in January. I served on the sub-committee to iron out the final details before presenting the information to the Board. We had to postpone the decision for a month, but we finally agreed on the new structure at the meeting last week.
There was a *lot* of discussion initially and then again later about whether the Treasurer should be on the Board, the Council of Committees, or both. Some people are just so anxious about money that they want the Treasurer there at every meeting. Cooler heads prevailed and we ended up with the Treasurer on the Board. The Board will have 9 people plus the minister in an ex-officio capacity. Each person serves 3 years. The President-Elect becomes the Presdient, then the Past President so that ends up being the 3 years. We needed to establish staggered terms for the rest of the members. People felt that the Treasurer is a hard job (despite my assurances to the contrary) so that person needs to be there for the first three years of the new structure. The other 3 year term is the Personnel Committee Chair, which is changing from the President Elect to a person elected specifically for this job. I think that's a good move.
I just hope we can find enough volunteers to fill the spots. Attendance on Sunday is down and committee membership is down too. We are in the midst of the pledge campaign. I figure with the economy and the seeming lack of interest, it will be a great success if we raise the same amount of money as last year. The party at the end is a Cinderella ball, so I want to come up with a fun costume.
