Beach Trip

This past weekend was my annual beach trip with my women's group. We had a lovely house on Folley Beach. There were 10 of us this year. I arrived Friday evening and left Sunday evening. It rained most of the weekend, including a few downpours. It didn't bother me because I enjoy sitting on the porch reading and listening to the waves. Watching the storms was kind of fun.

On Friday night we all watched Iron Jawed Angels. I knew about Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, but I didn't know about Alice Paul and Lucy Burns. It really made me think about what they gave up so that I would be able to vote. I have always taken voting for granted, but it really wasn't that long ago that women couldn't vote. I think every woman should watch this movie to appreciate those activists who made it possible.

Saturday was the Charleston library book sale. I only got half a crate this year! A few good finds, including a couple of CDs (one of Gregorian chants) and some VHS tapes along with the books. Alisoun and I ate a yummy lunch at A. W. Shucks. I had tilapia (which was great), broccoli with shredded carrots, and stone ground grits(which came with a bit of margarine). The grits were my splurge, since they aren't on the diet this week. I only ate half of them and ate the other half yesterday.

I did very well on the diet. I took vegetables, rice, and canned salmon with me as well as all the stuff for the breakfast shake. I stayed on the diet the whole weekend except for the grits. I was disappointed to find when I got home that my weight had not changed. At least I can tell my pants are looser and I feel better. 4 more days until Phase 2!

Book I'm listening to: The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory
Books I'm reading: The Color Purple by Alice Walker; Damanhur: The Story of the Extraordinary Italian Artistic And Spiritual Community by Jeff Merrifield
