A Year of Green Steps

Mar 26, 2008 11:09

It's been a year since we started out on our one green step a month project. So, let's see how we are doing.

March - save warmup water from bathtub
We are still doing this daily and it's been a year. I declare this one a big success!
April - use my own bags at stores
I do this most of the time. I keep 3 string bags in the car. I use them at Garners, the grocery store, and the drugstore. It's rare that I don't use them. Another success.
May - greener/community financial investments
We are still giving loans through Kiva. One of them has been paid off so far. I haven't done as much as I want with other investments. More work needed here.
June - switch from fabric sheets to dryer balls
Another success. The dryer balls are working out great.
July - switch to greener cleaning and personal care products
We are using Seventh Generation dishwasher powder and Charlie's Soap in the washer. I am using Burt's Bees products and other green personal care. We have made big progress but could still do more.
August - buy organic cat food
We are still feeding the cats Pet Promise. They seem happy with it. Another success!
September - participating in Freecycle
We could do a lot more here. We have given away several items, so it's still a success.
October - eliminate vampire power sources
We still have some sources of vampire power, but we have reduced several of them.
November - use vinegar in wash
I am still using vinegar, but as a fabric rinse rather than with the soap.
December - send recycled holiday cards
This was a one-time thing rather than ongoing.
January - eliminate high fructose corn syrup
Still doing fine with this.
February - make our own hand soap
I just started this but it is working out fine so far.

I am pleasantly surprised by how well we have done in sticking to our steps. I declare the project a success.

Now to pick a project for this year!
