Today's Writing Prompt is Ellis Island. Did you know that Ellis Island only operated from 1892 until 1954, and that after 1924 it mainly served as detention for those being deported? And the Statue of Liberty is not on Ellis Island at all, but on Liberty Island? Wikipedia says so, so it must be true.
Advice - Sometimes you have to examine your preconceived notions. Experiment with characters. Add someone who is not supposed to be there. Have them do something they would never do, and figure out why they did it. Change a character's race, gender or occupation to something unexpected and see how that changes their story.
