Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!

Holy crap, this has been the best convention so far!

RMFC moved to a new hotel. While I was a little bit icy about the idea at first, as the Double Tree had grown on me a bit, that doubt quickly evaporated once I actually saw the place.

First of all, it seems that every single year, I get inundated with work for the convention that at times seems very overwhelming. What I often forget about is that amazing payoff it has at the end of the road. Since I am a local this year, I got a little more involved in the process of setting everything up. The organization, and work that convention staff put into putting the whole event together is just immense. It's not just me... it's absolutely everyone. I guess whatever we did last year was enough to bring about a 35% increase in attendees, when were expecting 10-15% at most. Needless to say, we ran out of quite a bit of stuff. With that in mind, it's going to be a real challenge to figure out how much stuff to order for next year.

Day by day, the convention couldn't have gone smoother. I had to work on Friday, so I wasn't able to attend that day, but I found out by that evening we had already shattered last year's attendance numbers. We hung out for a bit with some of the NM Furs who made their way up. Saturday was slightly stressful, since bunny had to be at a panel at 11am. We're not morning people, obviously, so we got there by the skin of our teeth. There was a bit of drama with hotel IT after some technical difficulties, but we got set up, and by the end of it I thought it was a successful panel. Afterward, we decided to try to get a game of Arkham Horror going, which was successful. We met a pretty wily fur from Texas who absolutely loved to talk, which made the game go a bit more smoothly. We later met him at a room party that we stayed at until about 2am. Sunday is of course the day after the party so it was a bit of a lull. We didn't go to any panels that day. Essentially, we just resumed our game of Arkham that we had paused from the previous day. Sooner enough it was time for closing ceremonies they announced the numbers, which earned thunderous applause from the crowd. At the same time, they also announced officially that I will be the new director of Marketing for the convention, after Rocky announced his resignation from the position (he had been doing both marketing and registration.) I've spent the last few weeks mulling it over, and decided finally that it would be something that I'd be able to take on. Especially since I no longer have baseball stuff to do in Albuquerque! This means I'll be responsible for Social Media, generating ideas for next year and the following year, and ordering my own graphic designer around. *evil laugh.* ... we'll see how this goes.

All this culminates into a successful convention, and I absolutely cannot wait until next year! Next on my agenda is trying to find some time to go down to Albuquerque to visit. That will either happen this coming weekend or the next.
