“Enough” Joseph cried out “All of you home, now!” His hand waved in a simple half arch gesture and the three remaining found themselves forced out of the anomaly castle. Carrie no novice caster audibly gasped at Joseph’s perceived anger and how easily he forced the rest of the group back to the temple. Prom groaned and forced his will against Joseph’s own will determined not to leave him here to face this threat alone, even if Joseph didn’t want his help. After a slight moments pause he found himself sitting flatly on his flat on his rump back at the temple, it was if he hadn’t been magically shoved through a doorway that he didn’t want to cross.
Back at the Castle, Joseph stood alone in a room that was ablaze with excitement. He walked deliberately past the flaming corpse of Tobias towards the ring on the floor. Several individuals of the hoard of impish monsters jumped in front of his path, he merrily closed his eyes and continued to walk forward passing strait through them. When he reached the ring he leaned over and retrieved it.
A taunting voice spoke from somewhere in the room, “You sent all your allies away, how foolish of you”.
Joseph fingered a small section of chain in his hand, “Enough of your trickery, you will show me your true form!” Matching the rise in his voice he flung the chain forward as if meaning to strike his invisible foe. As the chain flew through the air it burst into three separate pieces that veered in midair to strike there intended targets in the forehead. As impact was made the invisibility that cloaked them was dispelled.
Before Joseph stood two creatures, the large an imposing one had the body or a well muscled human, hoofed feet, and two serpentine heads that danced back and forth at the end of long snaking necks. One of its hands looked like a human hand that ended in long clawed fingers, the other hand looked black and shriveled as it was being charred by a continuous black flame it produced. Of the two heads, one was smooth and flowed seamlessly into its neck, while the other had a large neck frill and seemed almost dragon like in appearance. Matching it’s eyes Joseph quickly ascertained that it had animal like intelligence at best. I looked to consider his other more cunning foe.
This one was short and almost childlike in appearance. A clever smile and sharp facial features said otherwise however. Still one detail in particular stood out in this being that marked it as something not human and not a child; his eyes. His eyes were black, reflecting no light at all. This is not to say his iris was black, no the whole of his eye was black, the pupil, iris, and even what would normally be called the white. Rather than reflecting the light they seemed almost to be absorbing and eating the light immediately surrounding him making the room grow dim. A starless planet could not begin to feel the cold absence Joseph felt looking into this creature gaze. Having seen many things in his long life, this was one of the few to actually unnerve him.
The being smiled “How do you like my pet? It took a lot of mental energy to cloud him from your minds to keep him hidden so.”
